  1. Cate Blanchett: People Who Think Homophobia, Other Discrimination Are Over Are “Very Foolish”

Some people in America lately seem to be convinced that we've entered some kind of future utopia where we've moved past racism, sexism, homophobia, and all other kinds of discrimination, and only the people who wish to have meaningful conversations about those subjects even notice such petty differences between people—despite the reality of daily discrimination. And Cate Blanchett has had it.

  2. Cate Blanchett Talks Women In Hollywood, Her Sexuality, and Her Latest Film, Carol

    “We have to push forward."

Cate Blanchett has always been an insanely talented actress, and lately she's become something more - an outspoken feminist. As she's moved forward through her career, she's become increasingly vocal in her criticism of the sexism in her industry, which we love. She had reason to discuss those issues further in a recent interview with Variety, where she was discussing her upcoming, female-led film, Carol, which is premiering at the Cannes Film Festival this weekend.

  5. Visionary Cate Blanchett Suggests Women Who’ve Stopped Menstruating Still Like Movies

Thinking outside of the baby box.

Hollywood seems to have a difficult enough time understanding that young women are a real demographic that will pay money in exchange for movie tickets, so Cate Blanchett's knowledge bomb is going to blow their minds: women aren't actually set adrift on ice flows when they stop menstruating and may even still watch movies!

  6. Huh, The New Cinderella Trailer Actually Makes The Movie Looks Much Better

Nice to see Xaro Xhoan Daxos got out of that vault!

Although, as I've said before, casting Richard Madden as the handsome prince who tosses aside his arranged marriage for love of a commoner is going to backfire on them considerably. Sure he's a great actor, but the second his king dad says "You must marry for the good of the kingdom" everyone in the theater is going to yell "OH GODS JUST DO IT THIS TIME WE CAN'T BEAR THE PAIN AGAIN."

  19. Kenneth Branagh May Have the Grimm Task of Directing Disney’s Live-Action Cinderella

In Which We Make A Terrible Pun

Last we heard about Disney's live-action version of Cinderella director Mark Romanek was out because Disney didn't take too kindly to the dark (read: Actually fairy tale-esque) ending he wanted. Now Vulture reports that Kenneth Branagh might jump in instead. But Vulture, tell me what I really want to know: Is Cate Blanchett still on board as the evil stepmother?

  20. Cinderella Remake Director Too Grimm for Disney

In Which We Make A Terrible Pun

I tend to get a little cynical when it comes to fairy tale remakes, just because they're everywhere and I'm sick of them. But there was one I was really looking forward to: Disney's live-action Cinderella remake, because Cate Blanchett is going to be the evil stepmother and Mark Romanek (Never Let Me Go, One Hour Photo) was going to direct, and how can I resist that? Except now Romanek's gone, reportedly because Disney thought his take on the material was too dark. What, was he trying to do an accurate-to-the-original-story version or something?
