Almost Totally Excellent

Young Justice Trailer Gets Us Excited For the Return of DC Nation

If you were one of the viewers disappointed when Cartoon Network pulled their DC Nation programming block without warning, it’s almost time to rejoice. On January 5, DC Nation returns with new episodes of Young Justice and Green Lantern: The Animated Series. Here’s a promo for the former (with a few slight spoilers from this season’s previous episodes) that shows lots of new characters, plus our returning favorites.

Super Best Friends Forever Will Not Continue With the Next Season of DC Nation

Lauren Faust tweeted this picture last night along with the text “Been missing these ladies lately…” This prompted our fellow ladies in comics blogger Sue from DC Women Kicking Ass to press for more information, and Faust, the showrunner behind My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and The Super Best Friends Forever shorts for the DC Nation hour on Cartoon Network, confirmed the sad news that when DC Nation finally returns from an unexpected hiatus in January, we won’t be seeing any more of the SBFF’s brand of equal opportunity crime fighting any time soon.

Even though we haven’t heard any news on the status of Cartoon Network’s DC Nation programming block since it was pulled mid-October, we’ve got a new short! The Teen Titans are back and they’re dealing with a very precocious baby.

Questions! Questions That Need Answering

Cartoon Network Puts DC Nation on Unexplained 3 Month Haitus With No Notice to Fans or Creators

Cartoon Network viewers, fans of Young Justice, Green Lantern, and lots of people anticipating the premiere of the first Amethyst: Princess of Gemworld, and Black Lightning shorts were confused, Friday night, when they checked their television listings to find that in the hour when DC Nation normally aired, something else entirely was listed. It had been replaced by Dragons: Riders of Berk, a tie in series to Dreamworks’ How to Train Your Dragon. Many people assumed it was just a mistake, since even the creator of the Gemworld shorts, Brianne Drouhard, was under the impression that her work would begin airing tomorrow.

After all, DC Nation couldn’t go on hiatus again: it had only been two weeks since it returned with a new season of Young Justice and Green Lantern after a four month break. Could it?

The Super Best Friends Forever Return This Weekend, and They’re Bringing Solomon Grundy

I can’t wait to see the Super Best Friends triumph over that most familiar of nemesis: the boys who refuse to play.

And if you’re wondering what exactly a siboof is, see below.

The Justice League of Animals Live Like Animals In This DC Nation Clip

This new DC Nation short is a riff on the old Just’a Lotta Animals from back in the day at DC and will premiere on Cartoon Network September 29. It’s certainly got a very John Kricfalusi/Ren & Stimpy vibe, no? I can’t find any information on who made it but if it was Kricfalusi I think they’d be making a big deal out of it. Anyway, I look forward to seeing the whole thing in a few weeks.

Fans Do Cool Things

A Trailer For The Captain Planet Movie You Never Knew You Wanted

We’ve seen a ridiculous live-action Captain Planet video from Funny or Die starring Don Cheadle, we’ve also heard about the possiblity of Cartoon Network making an actual Captain Planet movie. This is neither of those things. This is a fan made trailer from Noah Baron, Matt Kohler, and Robert Santiago that gets the band back together, as it were. It’s got action, it’s got romance, it’s even got a maniacal laugh!

Watch Batman Battle Catwoman In 1930s China

Ever wanted to watch your favorite Batman characters duke it out anime-style? Check out Bat Man of Shanghai, the first in a series of shorts by Wolf Smoke studio “set in 1930 China and featuring an alternate version of Catwoman and a cameo by Bane.” The short was featured during Cartoon Network’s DC Nation block and Wolf Smoke promises more shorts if Warner Bros. gives them the okay. We certainly hope they do! I particularly love Catwoman’s alternate outfit, not to the mention the way she wields that whip! Can you spot the Bane cameo?

Star Wars: The Clone Wars Returning With A Woosh In The Fall [VIDEO]

That was supposed to be the sound of a lightsaber in case you were wondering. Cartoon Network’s Star Wars: The Clone Wars had a pretty action packed fourth season. I won’t spoil it for those who’ve yet to hear the news but the biggest event to happen was the return of a character thought quite dead. Needless to say, this trailer shows us s/he will be back in force for Season 5 along with all our favorites including Ashley Eckstein’s Ahsoka Tano! I love pretty much everything about this trailer but I’m especially digging the music they’re using. Star Wars: The Clone Wars returns this fall.
