  1. Steven Universe Recap: “Shirt Club”

In which this whole “airing episodes out of order” thing finally feels noticeable.

Alright, turns out we had one more episode pushed back by the Steven Bomb (I think, according to Matt Burnett’s post – Google lists the next two episodes as being waylaid season 1 episodes as well, but let’s take that with a grain of salt). And while “Open Book” and “Story for Steven” straddled a line of “would’ve flowed really well here but work well as stand-alones,” today’s episode is pretty substantively hurt by where it ended up.

  3. Important Video Examines How Steven Universe Portrays An “Unconventional” Family

Humans find such fascinating ways to waste their time.

There's no single correct definition for what constitutes a "family" - so it kind of blows that we typically only see one, "nuclear" version of it in the media. But Steven Universe gives us a cartoon where the main character has a very different family set-up - and treats it like it's completely normal and awesome. Because it is. Way to go, guys.

  4. Steven Universe Recap: “Say Uncle”

Let’s just collectively agree to call this one “The Doomsday That Wasn’t.”

Some background information on your author in relation to today’s crossover: prior to this week, my experience with Uncle Grandpa was more or less limited to “those two minute intervals when you haven’t been able to successfully find the remote or stop the autoplay.”

  7. The Mary Sue’s Worst Moments in Female Fandom in 2014

On the upside, we got to snark a lot. On the downside... everything.

We try to see the positive in all situations around here at TMS, but occasionally, some things happen in fandom that we just have to call out. 2014 had a series of moments in which it didn't feel super-awesome to be a female fan of things like comics, cosplay, and video games, so let's take a look at the whole horrible list.

  10. Our Interview With Adventure Time‘s Head of Story and the Voice of Flame Princess!

Or should I say Flame KING.

Adventure Time's been on a bit of a hiatus lately, but the series is back on Cartoon Network, starting with "Ghost Fly." We though that was certainly enough of a timely event to share the fruits of our New York Comic Con roundtable interview with Kent Osborne, AT's head of story, and Jessica DiCicco, the voice of Flame Princess.

    Awwww. Big hugs.

Yesterday Rolling Stone Magazine released a profile of Pendleton Ward, the series creator and former showrunner of Adventure Time. Yup, that's right, former; according to the article, he stepped down in season 5 because he could no longer handle the stress of running such a successful show. But it's okay, we promise!

  13. Teen Titans, Go! We Select A Fancast for TNT’s Teen Titans Live Action Pilot

But will the theme song be as catchy?

Last week it was announced that DC Entertainment is working on a Teen Titans television pilot for cable channel TNT, which, as we're all aware, knows drama. As a big fan of the cartoon line-up when I was... well, older than I was supposed to be and still watching cartoons, I thought we'd take the time to explore just who we'd like to see in a Teen Titan teen drama. Teen!

  14. The Young Justice Crew Are Coming Back to TV For One Time Only (Probably)! You Can Thank Teen Titans Go!

Oh god, I just realized how much I miss this show.

Fans of Cartoon Network's Young Justice were crushed when the show was cancelled along with Green Lantern: The Animated Series. While they'd prefer to see the show start back up or at the very least wrapped up with a mini-series or film, they're getting a special treat soon in the form of a crossover.

  15. [UPDATED] Skyler Page Fired From Cartoon Network Following Public Accusations Of Sexual Harassment

It's difficult to speak about harassment or abuse of any kind but when also coupled with the fear of losing employment, it's even more daunting. That's why we were surprised to see one individual make a clear accusation online of sexual harassment. While backlash was expected and did happen, reaction from Cartoon Network was also swift.

  19. Bruce Timm Celebrates Batman’s 75th Anniversary With A New Animated Short

Since Young Justice and Green Lantern: The Animated Series were cancelled by Cartoon Network, I stopped paying attention to the DC Nation shorts which were continuing on Wednesdays during Teen Titans Go! But I did not miss the news of Bruce Timm returning to his Batman: The Animated Series animation style for a special anniversary short (he also helped with the celebration of Superman's 75th). It's described as, "a lost tale from Batman's past, the Dark Knight tracks a strange giant to the mysterious lair of Dr. Hugo Strange."
