  1. Only Two of the 100 Top-Grossing Movies of the Year Were Directed by Women

Today in things that make us scream incoherently

We’ve written at length about how sexism and the film and TV industries negatively affects the number of women behind the screen, most noticeably when it comes to directing. Not that this it at all surprising, but the trend continued in 2013: Movies with female leads made bank, but of the 100 top-grossing movies of the year only two of them were directed by women. Say that it's because women must not want to direct as much as men do and I will spit fire at everything you love.

  2. This Carrie Themed Viral Video Has Some Pretty Sweet Practical Effects. Also, A Telekinetic Lady [Video]

They're all gonna laugh at you!

So there's a remake set to hit movie theaters pretty soon. we don't know how we feel about that yet. What we do know is that Thinkmodo, an NY viral marketing company that make movie tie-in "prank" videos, is really good at what it does. Case in point: this video of a lady throwing a dude at a coffee shop wall with her telekinetic powers.

  3. The Official Trailer for the Carrie Reboot

    Bloody Good Fun

I could have put in a warning about how this gives away the end of the movie, but then I remembered that the original movie is thirty-seven years old and is based on a novel that's going on forty. There's a statute of limitations on this kind of thing. (via Sigrid Ellis.)

  4. I Want To Hug My Mommy After Seeing The New Carrie Poster

    i'll just leave this here

The Carrie remake has a new release date, October of this year, and that was probably a good idea. Scary things and October just make sense and all indications point to Carrie being very, very scary. For instance, this new poster featuring Carrie's mom played by Julianne Moore. I'll be under my covers if anyone needs me. (via Empire Online) Are you following The Mary Sue on Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Pinterest, & Google +?

  6. Director Kimberly Peirce Likens Carrie To a Superhero Origin Story

    Bloody Good Fun

I hate it when horror directors say things about their movies that make me want to see them, because I don't like horror movies. I'm looking at you, Cabin in the Woods. I wouldn't go so far as to say I hate horror movies. Alien was certainly pretty great. I love scary books, and there's pretty much no level of gore in comics that I won't cackle gleefully at. But you're talking to a chick who walked out her Film 101 screening of the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre twenty minutes in. As soon as that one chick got hung on a meathook, I was done. So, thanks, Kimberly Peirce, for saying really interesting things about your Carrie movie. Thanks a lot.

It was hard to pick which of these four cake pops, made by Lou Lou P's Delights, would go best at the front of the post. They're all just so... scary!

My advise is not to read into it much, but that is a Hulk comic. Here's where to go if you want to know how this happened. (Tumblr)
