Angelina Jolie has never been one to sit back and let the world happen around her, so we probably shouldn’t have been surprised when news broke of the actress undergoing a double mastectomy as a preemptive move again breast cancer. That’s just how she rolls.

We previously told you about the campaign launched by Allana Maiden asking Victoria’s Secret to make “survivor bras” to “help breast cancer survivors feel beautiful.” Maiden is close to the concerns of those with breast cancer, her mother Debbie Barrett is 21 years cancer free, and hoped a Change.org petition would help urge the company to participate. Yesterday, Allana and her mother delivered the petition to the company’s office in New York City and got really positive responses.

As you may already know, October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Lots of different companies and organizations have projects to raise money for various charities but a recent move by Etsy has raised some eyebrows. They sent out an email with the phrase “Show your love to the women in your life with Breast Cancer Awareness Month” but a blogger realized very few of the items listed actually supported a breast cancer charity.

More than ever, women are being told to get mammograms if there is a history of breast cancer in their family but that test may soon be obsolete thanks to new research. Scientists have been working on developing methods to detect if someone is likely to develop breast cancer with a simple blood test. And it would let you know long before a tumor ever showed up.

Remember the posters you saw in your high school locker room with the realistic-looking diagrams illustrating the proper way to examine your breasts every month? And how depressing they were? Dear schools: Start hanging the above poster in girls’ locker rooms. It has puns, it has adorable cartoon versions of cheerful (but cautious) breast tissue, and it has copy that women young and old will actually be interested in reading. They had me at “Gland of Milk and Honey.”
