In Which We Make A Terrible Pun

This Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs Sequel Concept Art is Gorgeous, Puntastic

My name is Rebecca, and I love puns. I’m usually on duty here at The Mary Sue on Sundays, so I like to fill that day with as many puns as I can/remember to use. I’m saying this by way of an explanation as to why I’m posting this set of concept art from Cloudy 2: Revenge of the Leftovers, this fall’s sequel to Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs. First and foremost, Cloudy was an excellent movie and I’m very much looking forward to the new one. And the concept art is, I think, pretty cool-looking.

But there’s an ulterior movie, too. You see, the plot of the sequel is that heroes Flint (Bill Hader) and Sam (Anna Faris) have to defeat a race of food-animal hybrids, or food-imals. This concept art is of said food-imals, most of which have been given a punny name.

I couldn’t resist. I tried, but I couldn’t. Here you go.

What Do You Think of This Jeremy Renner-Starring Avengers SNL Sketch? [VIDEO]

Did you know that Hawk—I mean, Jeremy Renner, hosted Saturday Night Live last night? And that there was a sketch spoofing The Avengers? (Of course there was.) That sketch is above. What do you guys think? Black Widow’s sexy mugging for the camera bugged me a little bit… but then again, it’s just a comedy sketch, though not one that I think is particularly funny. (Yeah, yeah, no sense of humor, whatever. I heard his opening monologue is good; I’m waiting for it to pop up online.) Renner is good in it, though.

My vote for best line: Bill Hader-as-Thor’s “Anyone have a scrunchie?”

Kristen Wiig Leaves Saturday Night Live In an Emotional Goodbye

What’s been rumor for a while now has finally been confirmed — after seven seasons on NBC‘s Saturday Night Live, Kristen Wiig is moving on. Last year, the superstar comedian proved she could draw an audience beyond the late-night institution with her script for and performance in Bridesmaids, the former of which got her an Oscar nomination. So, yes — it will be sad to see Wiig’s brand of demented but lovable characters gone from Saturday nights. But she’s going to be just fine. That doesn’t mean that some of us, including Wiig, didn’t cry about it, though.

Yes, Indeed, Daniel Radcliffe Played Harry Potter on Saturday Night Live Last Night! Watch It Here! [Video]

Daniel Radcliffe, who can now officially be known for movies and things other than Harry Potter, did all of his most rabid fans a big favor by doing more than just mentioning the franchise that made him famous. He did a whole sketch in which he played the boy wizard (who, in the sketch, is no longer a boy), and he even talked about it in the monologue. Another Glorious Video From Stand Up to Cancer Featuring Celebrity Geeks

Back in September, we showed you the first video by Stand Up to Cancer (SU2C) featuring a slew of celebrities acting out scenes from Star Wars like an adorable bunch of nerds. The organization teamed up with Lucasfilm for the promotion, and now they’ve released another! This one features a behind-the-scenes look at the first one, plus some more touching stories about how the actors — Bill Hader, Seth Rogen, Andy Samberg, Emma Stone, Aziz Ansari, Jaime King, Zach Galifinakis, Ken Jeong, and Samuel L. Jackson — have been affected by cancer in their lives.

Celebrities Are Star Wars Nerds, Too [Video]

Celebrities are just like us! A group of Hollywood types — Emma Stone, Seth Rogen, Bill Hader, Andy Samberg, Jaime King, and a few others — got together to re-enact their favorite scenes from Star Wars as part of an awareness campaign by Stand Up to Cancer, which raises money for cancer research. Celebrities waving their nerd flags high is pretty fun, so we support this silly video effort.

Sorry, the Self-Lacing Shoes Don’t Happen Until 2015 [Video]

Yesterday, we teased the tease of the Nike Air Mag, the sneakers inspired by the futuristic, self-lacing ones worn by Michael J. Fox in Back to the Future. And today, there’s a commercial! It has SNL‘s Bill Hader in it, as well as OK City Thunder’s Kevin Durant and Doc Brown himself, Christopher Lloyd! It’s a commercial that’s produced by Steven Spielberg and Robert Zemeckis, which we found out because there is a full credit sequence following the two-minute video. But when they do come out, the 1,500 pairs that will be made will be auctioned on eBay with the proceeds going towards The Michael J. Fox Foundation. That’s heavy.
