  1. Sun Continues Impressive Activity, Tosses Coronal Mass Ejections at Earth

If you weren't already aware, the Sun's been seeing a whole lot of action of late. Like, it's still being the Sun, but it's also putting out incredible X-class solar flares, complete with coronal mass ejections. The latter doesn't necessarily require the former, though, and that's where we find ourselves at currently. Thanks to a couple of coronal mass ejections yesterday, there's a good chance we're going to get some geomagnetic storm activity over the next few days.

  2. Mulan & Sleeping Beauty Argue Over A Prince In This Once Upon A Time Clip

    Pretty Pretty Princess

This scene, from the upcoming second season of ABC's Once Upon a Time, isn't quite what you'd think. It features Mulan (played by Jamie Chung) and Aurora (Sarah Bolger) not arguing over who gets the Prince but who gets to save the Prince. Sunday cannot come fast enough. (via io9)

  3. Disney Princesses Re-Imagined As Women Of Color

    Fans Do Cool Things

Despite our immense love of all things Disney, we wouldn't mind if they added a few more princesses of color -- while we can't get enough of Jasmine, Mulan, Tiana, and Pocahontas (despite that movie horrifically minimizing the impacts of colonialism), there is always more room for positive representations of women of color, especially in films that reach young girls beginning to steel themselves against a media culture that can be racist, sexist, and cruel. While we can't exactly go back in time and influence Disney's animators (though if we could, we totally would) we can at least squeal over these awesome race bent princesses, thanks to Tumblr user Lauren and Azaelea's Dolls!

  4. Things We Saw Today: The Dark Knight Rises Composer Dedicates New Song to Help Raise Money for Aurora Shooting Victims

    Things We Saw Today

Another day, another heart-warming response from the Dark Knight Rises team in the wake of the Aurora shooting. This time it's legendary film composer Hans Zimmer, who scored the trilogy, who has composed a song for those affected by the tragedy:

"'Aurora' is dedicated to those who lost their lives and were affected by the tragedy in Aurora, Colorado. I recorded this song in London in the days following the tragedy as a heartfelt tribute to the victims and their families. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Aurora Victim Relief organization."
You can listen to the song and donate to the cause here. (via MTV)

  5. This? Oh, It’s Nothing. Just the Aurora Australis Over Antarctica With The Milky Way

Despite Google bringing the South Pole to your computer, there are some sights that have to be witnessed first hand to really be appreciated. Such is likely the case for this picture, taken outside the Concordia base in Antarctica. In the bitter, freezing night, the southern lights -- aurora australis -- put on an incredible show with the Milky Way.

  6. Scientists on Earth Spot Aurora Around Uranus

When Voyager 2 made its flyby of the strangely tilted planet Uranus, scientists got their first glimpse of what an aurora looked like on the icy blue planet. However, such lights have never been observed on Uranus from Earth, until last year when a team of scientists used careful planning and the Hubble Telescope to watch the lights on the distant planet.

  7. Majestic "Moonbow" Makes Rainbows Seem Gaudy, Cheap

When Iceland isn't spewing volcanic ash into the air or crowdsourcing a rewrite of its constitution, it's home to some of the most spectacular views on the planet. This image from Stephane Vetter is a great example, featuring a gorgeous waterfall, spectacular rock formations, a faint aurora and a "moonbow."
