These Mathematical Animal Illustrations Are Cute And Educational

Math was never fun for me so I appreciate it when people try and make it so. For instance, Kasia Jackowska and her Drawing Mathematics series. She illustrated math concepts through animal forms and had them published by the Department of Mathematics of the University of Warsaw. Just don’t ask me to identify them.

Because We Can Never Get Enough Of Cats & Star Wars, Here’s A Kitty Using The Force

Final Cut King is at it again. Previously, they brought us the kitten lightsaber duel and Jedi kittens strike back (plus Pikachu Kitten) and we’re happy to see they aren’t done mixing kitties and Star Wars. Honestly, it almost scares me to think what my cat would do with the power of The Force. Maybe don’t leave your cat home alone with access to your DVD collection. Just in case.

It Belongs in a Museum!

New Webseries Alert: The Brain Scoop

If you find yourself loving Caitlin Doughty‘s Ask A Mortician but wish she talked more about the embalming techniques of cash-strapped small museums doing their best to present the science of the natural world to their patrons and/or animals, you might want to check out the latest addition to the Nerdfighter YouTube family, The Brain Scoop, featuring Emily Graslie, the volunteer curatorial assistant at the University of Montana Zoological museum. Above is the first episode of her new show covering the museum’s unseen (because there is only so much display space) collections. Below is her first Q&A video (which includes how the museum acquires its animal remains), and below that, if you’ve got a hankering for the creepy, she shows us the dark basement room where all the things in formaldehyde jars are kept because there’s no other space for them. Enjoy!

Late Monday Cute: Grumpy Cat Gets A Voice [VIDEO]

Sometimes I wonder why my cats aren’t famous. Then I realize owning a famous cat is a lot of work I probably don’t have time for. So I watch famous cats online instead. Like Tardar Sauce, who you probably know better as Grumpy Cat. I think CBS should get on a Christmas Special with this kitty ASAP. The owners just posted a fantastic video that gives their famous kitty a voice. An adorable, adorable voice. It’s autostart so we’ve placed it after the jump.

Real Birds Tweet With Their Own Twitter Account, Are More Interesting Than You [VIDEO]

When we first got my cat Dewey, he had a tendency to walk on my keyboard. I was surprised one day to find replies to my twitter stream asking if I was OK. Turns out, Dewey had sent a tweet on my behalf of complete gibberish thanks to me leaving Tweetdeck open. And it wouldn’t be the last time. But conceptual artist  Voldemars Dudums decided to let some animals tweet on purpose, namely birds. Which couldn’t be more perfect considering Twitter’s mascot. How did he do it? He set up a Twitter account for them, @hungry_birds, and rigged a keyboard with snacks of pork fat. They now have over 5,000 followers. Watch them in action but make sure to pay attention to what Dudums says near the end of the video about the rest of us Twitter users. You can learn more at BirdsOnTwitter.com.

Keep the Change Ya Filthy Animal

Allergic To Cats? Now You Can Pay To Play With Them Over The Internet.

It’s called the iPet Companion and it allows you to control kitty toys remotely so you can keep otherwise bored cats entertained. Via the FAQ: “A signal is relayed from the servers at iPet Companion to the control boxes situated within the home (located anywhere in the world) – that allows for users to see and move the toys, with minimal time lag” says Scott Harris, founder and owner Reach-In, the Idaho-based company that developed the software. It seems to be getting use from shelters across the country but is also available for home use. It will set you back $349.95 plus postage for the cat version, $395 plus postage for dogs, and a $4.95 monthly service fee for your own interactive webpage. You must supply the actual toys. And no, you don’t get your money back if your cat thinks it’s stupid, no matter how great you think it is.

I See What They Did There

If Cats And Dogs Were People [VIDEO]

Having been a cat owner my entire life, I can tell you this is 100% accurate. And dogs, well, everyone knows how dogs are. So what would it be like if their personalities were personified by humans? Comedy gold. If you’re a pet owner, you’ll probably love this, if not, at least you’ll have a good idea of what you’re getting yourself into should you ever decide to adopt a furry companion!

This Makes Sense

FACT: Looking At Cute Animals On The Internet Improves Work Performance

In most places of business, if your boss catches you wasting time looking at LOLCATS on the internet, you’d get in trouble. Luckily I work in an office where my boss regularly posts links to kitten cams so I don’t need to worry but the next time you get in trouble, offer up some new exciting evidence. Studies have shown that looking at baby animals while you work actually improves work performance. Yeah, I’m pretty shocked too.
