Among her other work, Amanda Visell makes beautiful one-of-a-kind wooden "action figures" based on pop culture characters, complete with box art and accessories. We've featured them twice before, but we couldn't resist Wonder Woman.
SuddenlyWe've featured the work of Amanda Visell before, when she was making utterly charming oversized Star Wars action figures. These Muppet carvings are each one of a kind... and yet I'm shocked to find that Kermit, Fozzie, and Gonzo are still available! I mean, okay, the price tag is a little steep for your average Christmas rush... but still. I'm just saying, it's a strange world where Animal and Bunsen Honeydew sell out first.
For A More Civilized AgeThese Star Wars characters, proportions rendered blocky and essentialist by the necessity of their material, would already be cute enough. But artist Amanda Visell has also furnished each of them with wooden packaging, done in the style laid out by the figures themselves. It's the craftsmanship that really makes them stand out, though: the light wash of grey over R2-D2's white exterior, the varying line widths. "Handmade" and "official merchandise" don't often cross paths with each other, but if they did it like this, I'd certainly be in favor.
