Agent of S.T.Y.L.E.: Wonder Woman in Television

Greetings, people of Earth. This is the beginning of a regular column wherein I will discuss the history and evolution behind various costumes and designs in superhero comics and other fun media. I’ll also be throwing in my own opinions, which you can take or leave certainly since we all have different tastes. To kick things off, I thought it would be fun to talk about a lady first introduced in 1941: Wonder Woman AKA Diana Prince AKA Princess Diana of Themyscira, the Paradise Island. We now know for sure that Gal Gadot will be playing her in the as-yet-untitled sequel to Man of Steel that really seems like it should be titled Hey, We’re Almost the Justice League.

There’s a lot of debate going on about how Wonder Woman should be portrayed. So to add food for thought, this time we look at how the amazing Amazon has been portrayed in live-action shows, with a couple of honorable mentions from comics and animation.

Smallville’s Lois Thinks She’s Wonder Woman On David E. Kelley’s Harry’s Law

Erica Durance, who played Lois Lane on the CW’s Smallville, has just been cast as Wonder Woman. Sort of. David E. Kelley, you know, the guy who tanked his Wonder Woman televisions series? He’s chosen Durance to play “a psychologically infirm woman who retreats into the persona of the DC Comics heroine to help wreak revenge on perpetrators of domestic abuse,” on his dramedy Harry’s Law. David, slowly back away from the Amazon Princess.

Adrianne Palicki is Wonder Woman

The news broke last night from The Hollywood Reporter: Adrianne Palicki will be playing Wonder Woman in the new David E. Kelley series on NBC.  Palicki’s longest running role to date has been that of Tyra Colette on Friday Night Lights, but we’re happy to report that… well, she might be one of us.

According to an ancient Friday Night Lights actor profile (too old to be dropping this kind of connection unless it were actually true), she “collects and reads comic books.”  She’s also done voice acting for Robot Chicken, including Robot Chickent: Star Wars Episode II.
