So What About the People Who Don’t Like Superhero Movies?

We don’t spend a lot of time thinking about what the world is like for the people out there who just don’t “get” superhero movies. After all, if you look at a list of the top grossing films of all time, it becomes obvious that only a handful aren’t “genre” films, and a huge number of them involve superheroes or something similar. And, well, that is because superhero movies are freaking awesome. But this short, from Rosa Handelman and Phoebe Neidhardt, explores how the superhero culture might just push a non-fan to the breaking point. It’s not a viewpoint we particularly relate to, but this take on it’s pretty hilarious (and don’t worry, not actually anti-fan), especially if you stick around till the end.

As a massive geek who just doesn’t get Superheroes, I can relate. Except for Thor. I dug Thor.

Why Thor?   Gambit and Batman were my gateway drugs.

Thor worked for me because of a random confluence of personal taste. I love Norse mythology, so even if it was a distinctively Marvel take on the myths,I could engage with it on that level. It was also the first superhero movie I’d seen where the “real world” actually seemed like the real world, (albeit a rainbow bridge, space god world.) But the New Mexico scenes were very clever and fun. Also, visually it was super original and imaginative. And Loki. Yeah, 90% Loki.
