Cara Delevingne Calls Superhero Movies out on Sexist Costuming; Suicide Squad Has On-Set Therapist

Actually, they're "more of a life coach."

In an interview for her upcoming movie Paper Towns, Suicide Squad‘s Cara Delevingne called superhero films out on impractical costuming for female characters. The actress, who plays Enchantress in David Ayer’s film, explained,

There are only three girls in [Suicide Squad] but in my opinion they have the best roles […] Generally though, superhero movies are totally sexist. Female superheroes are normally naked or in bikinis. No one would be able to fight like that. Wonder Woman, how the hell does she fight? She would be dead in a minute.

In other Squad news, Adam Beach (Slikpnot) revealed in an interview with EW that a life coach is now on set to help the actors cope with the demands of their roles:

David Ayer is about realism. So if your character is tormented, he wants you to torment yourself. He wants the real thing.

We kind of have like a therapist on board if you fall off the wagon and really are villainous. There’s a friend of [Ayer’s] that’s very unique in making sure we have our ground.

He’s not a psychotherapist, but more of a “life coach.” Us actors explore very fine thin lines going to the dark side and he wants to make sure we finish a movie and don’t disappear somewhere and then don’t show up for work.

Everyone’s mileage will vary on this, but I personally feel that method acting is pretentious garbage nonsense—especially high-profile “method acting” like Jared Leto sending Margot Robbie a live rat (too much, Jared). I think it’s irredeemably stupid to expect actors to literally torment themselves for any role, but on the plus side, it is nice to see Ayer taking responsibility for his cast’s wellness by incorporating “more of a life coach” into the production.

And hey, maybe Delevingne’s comments bode well for Suicide Squad‘s treatment of women? (She says, naively.) I don’t know, gang. What do you think? Should people send LIVE RATS to their coworkers or nah?
