J. Jonah Jameson Would Approve of These Set Pics of Tom Holland in Costume for Spider-Man: Homecoming

Bring me pictures of Spider-Man!

Spider-Man is coming home to Marvel—or, he already has in Civil War, but the newest take on the character is hard at work weaving his own solo tale. Sure, we’ve seen the newly designed costume that Tony Stark helped him trade up to in Civil War, but the first images (from Looper) of actor Tom Holland sporting it on the Spider-Man: Homecoming set are still pretty exciting.

They don’t give away much except that Spider-Man is really into that giant concrete pipe for some reason. He’s also sporting a backpack in some of the shots, standing on some kind of platform and/or trampoline (I’m guessing the latter for Spider-maneuvering purposes), and holding what appears to be a phoneWhat does it all mean? Probably not a whole lot. The backpack is probably because he’s a high school student, and it’d probably be weirder if he didn’t have a phone … or maybe Tom Holland just has some weird contract negotiation tactics, because his body language says, “Take one more step and the phone gets it!”

Or maybe the phone rang during a take, and he’s winding up to throw it in retaliation—the proper, well-adjusted way to react when your phone rings during something important. Anyway, the costume also looks a bit less perfect than it did in Civil War, but that could easily be a non-issue depending on camera angles and any CGI they’re planning to add later, which should at the very least be used to animate the eyes again. With only about a year until Spider-Man: Homecoming‘s release date of July 7, 2017, we’ll probably be seeing a lot more images like this and getting even more details, which should make at least one person very happy.
