Astronaut Karen Nyberg Exhibits Her Method For Hair Care In Space

Astronaut Karen Nyberg’s method for washing her hair aboard the International Space Station is fairly similar to how most of us do so at home, with some shampoo, water, and a towel for drying at the end. Despite the surface similarities, Nyberg’s video on washing long hair in space is mesmerizing, with beads of water flying away from her as she works them into her hair and her long locks floating upward. Watching, I can’t help but think maintaining a mohawk would be easier in space.

Totally appreciating her explanation about when her hair dries, the moisture is gathered by their air filtration system and turns it into drinking water. That was the scientist in her.

I had never actually thought about how long hair would behave without gravity… I guess stylists would have a field day devising new types of hairdos. :D
