In all of the excitement overĀ Mario Kart 8’sĀ pretty graphics and rapidly approaching release, you may have forgotten that Nintendo is still promising that their other game that’s packed full of mascot characters, Super Smash Bros., is still scheduled to release this year. Nintendo has just announced that we’ll find out more in a dedicated live stream on April 8th.
Just what will the big news be? It’s anyone’s guess, but you can probably expect at least one new character to join the roster during theĀ Smash Bros. Nintendo Direct live stream. They’ve been rolling out new character reveals to coincide with their franchise game releases and announcements so far, and they’re already up to 24 fighters.
We haven’t gotten a new character announcement since the last Nintendo Direct revealed Little Mac, though, so we’re about due for another one. If they’re going as far as to center a whole Nintendo Direct around the game, it’s also a good bet that they’ll have a firm release date for us (even though Smash Bros. games are notorious for missing their deadlines).
Smash Bros. is one of Nintendo’s most popular franchises, so a two pronged attack with both it andĀ Mario Kart this year bodes well for their chances of turning around their lagging sales. Personally, I’m not that excited about a newĀ Mario Kart, but aĀ Smash Brothers with a decent online mode has yet to materialize, so if the Wii U/3DS versions can deliver that, I’m on board for at least one more sequel.
They announced the “Smash Bros. Direct” right on the official Smash Bros. website, so it sounds like we’re in store for something good.Ā You can watch with us Tuesday, April 8th at 6:00PM ET when the Nintendo Direct goes live.
