It’s not an English, UK, or British accent that he speaks with on the show, it’s Westerosian – and it can be as “all over the place” as he chooses it to be. Please get over yourself.

I love Peter Dinklage. I’ve loved him ever since that first appearance in “Living in Oblivion” way back in the day. I used to see him around my neighbourhood in Brooklyn, and I was super-psyched to see him cast in “The Station Agent”, where he turned in a very impressive performance. He is an ambitious, talented, and charismatic actor, and I want to see him cast in all kinds of roles for decades to come.

That being said: his English accent in GoT is not “impeccable”. It’s actually pretty crap. And it’s made doubly annoying by the fact that he only has to put it on because of the bizarre Hollywood convention that “fantasy world with swords” means that people speak like they’re from the UK. I find his accent pretty distracting, really — I wish they would just let him play that role with his native accent, which strikes me as just as “Westerosian” as the fake UK accent he puts on for the show.

Anyway, it’s weird for Singer to single out his accent like that. It actually comes off as a bit patronizing, frankly. But I guess the comment makes sense if GoT is the only thing you’ve seen him in.

Agreed, unfortunately most writers aren’t Whedon and don’t see the complexity of character to be explored there. I’d much rather read about Cyclops’ mix of power and insecurity than watch another two years of Wolverine smoking cigars, killing things with his claws and being invincible, but I think I’m in the minority there. Too many writers only see Cyclops as a foil for Wolverine or as a love interest to stand by Jean Grey while she freaks out.

At least officially, they seem to be acknowledging it. Wolverine they’ve said takes place after X-Men 3 and Ellen Page is coming back as Kitty Pryde in DOFP.

Probably. Unless we see cyclops from the past?

Makes me sad. I really like Cyclops. I think that he, more than most comic book characters, is really at the mercy of his writer. It’s hard to make him likable because he is so serious. But there’s a difference between being serious and not caring about people.

It’s possible to make him seriously AND likable, though. Whedon did it.

That’d be sort of weird since Trask showed up in X-Men 3…as a black dude. I’m unsure as to whether or not Singer is acknowledging that movie as canon.
Cyclops is still death though, right?
