Aladdin Animator Eric Goldberg Gives The Simpsons a Disney History Lesson

Bippity boppity d'oh!

The Simpsons got some help from Disney veteran Eric Goldberg recently for a Disney-themed couch gag. Goldberg helped create some of Disney’s most memorable characters—among other credits, he was the lead animator on the character of Genie for Disney’s Aladdin, the lead animator on Phil in Hercules, and the co-director of Pocahontas—and he used his expertise to give a mini-history of the evolution of Disney using Lisa, Maggie, Bart, Homer, and Marge.

The animation references Disney films like Cinderella, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, The Jungle Book, and Fantasia, and casts every Simpsons character in pretty appropriate roles—Marge is the put-upon Snow White, Homer is Baloo the Bear, Bart is the sorcerer’s apprentice (from Fantasia, not the terrible Nic Cage movie), and Lisa is Cinderella. I feel like Lisa might object to some of the tropes present in Cinderella’s story, but otherwise, A+ casting.

As … lackluster as The Simpsons has become, it redeems the show in my eyes somewhat to see amazing animators like Goldberg getting a chance to put their spin on the series, if only for a very brief time. Other notable Simpsons couch gags have included Ren and Stimpy, Rick and Morty, and in another Disney twist, the characters from Frozen.
