What's with the name?

Allow us to explain.

Here Be Dragons

Seventh Son Features Julianne Moore as Definitely a Witch, Possibly a Dragon

Julianne Moore is a witch, I mean… she’s a dragon-witch. Uh, maybe she’s just a dragon? But she was still Julianne Moore. Julianne Moore.

(This joke brought to you by the internet in 2003.)

This movie is also based on an Orson Scott Card novel, no?

  • Tricia Ennis

Nope. Though Orson Scott Card did write a novel called The Seventh Son. This based on a YA series called The Wardstone Chronicles. The first book is The Spook’s Apprentice. It’s by Joseph Delaney.

    Ah, thanks for the clarification!

You know how everyone skips those adverts that autoplay before youtube vids? well this trailer popped up as one of those ads and I stopped to watch all 2mins 27sec of it. I guess I’m interested.

I feel kinda dumb because I went to Amazon to buy the first in the series of books, and purchased the first book in the “Wardstone Trilogy” by M. R. Mathias (self-published I think, and the first book is only .99 which blinded to me to the fact it wasn’t the right book). Anyway, don’t make the same mistake. Search for Joseph Delaney’s series. Even searching for “Seventh Son” at Amazon brings up both the Delaney and Mathias series, as well as the Orson Scott Card novel.

Yay, Ben Barnes! Now that he’s older, he can be in an epic fantasy movie and I can feel less squicky about how hot he is.

I hope this movie is awesome. I hope there is more to Julianne Moore’s villain than just temptress-who-happens-to-be-a-dragon. Though I can’t decide if I want her to be the misunderstood baddie, or pure evil for evil’s sake. (I haven’t read the books, yet, so don’t tell me, k?)

    *Sigh* Here, take my money.

Wait, what? This is based on Joseph Delaney’s Wardstone books? I just watched the whole trailer and didn’t realise that until I looked up the title.

Jeez. Those books are subtle and creepy and steeped in English mythology and atmosphere. This looks like the most generic movie ever made. What a shame.

Oh and the books are also full of great female characters who I see no sign of here.
