SDCC Toy Roundup: Final Fantasy Batman, Hot Toys Marty McFly, Darth Vader Hot Wheels, and Sailor Moon Buddies

Preorder all the things!

Luckily for those of us who aren’t currently attending San Diego Comic-Con, not being part of the fun means you also aren’t hemorrhaging money out the wazoo on all the stuff you could buy there. But given the amount of toys being debuted at the con this weekend, it’s only a matter of time before we, too, can be broke in the name of nerdy collectibles. More pictures after the jump!

First up we’ve got what’s probably the weirdest toy in the whole roundup: DC Comics’ Variant Play Arts line asked famous Final Fantasy (specifically V, VII, VIII, X, X-2, and Dissida) and Kingdom Hearts designer Tetsuya Nomura to come up with his own version of the caped crusader. The result is… well, not so much caped as “monstrously winged.” And surprisingly devoid of zippers and chains

Already I find myself trying to pick out which parts of Batman’s body would be separate targets to go after in a boss battle—those claws perched on either wing, probably, right?

Here, have a close up:

There’s no release date or price point yet, so we’ll have to wait for more details on just how to procure this weird Bahamut-looking Batman. I’m guessing there’ll be a side quest involved.

Next is the Hot Toys Marty McFly. The company’s well known for their terrifyingly accurate (right down to the pores), horrifyingly expensive figures of your favorite movie characters, and our Back to the Future hero is no exception. My favorite accessory? The newspaper with the Clock Tower headline. Knowing Hot Toys, I bet they wrote and shrunk down a whole article just to put on that first page.

But if you really want to splurge, you can also get his Delorian.

Aw, jeez. I just… I need a minute.

Now for something you might actually be able to afford, maybe: The Darth Vader collectible Hot Wheels car, which comes in its own lightsaber holster.

The display will run you something like $40, but other details from Mattell are currently very limited, so we can’t quite tell whether this is a Star Wars SDCC exclusive or not.  We’re guessing not, given that Mattell is reportedly producing a whole line with LucasFilm. Here, check out what the car looks like in there, only full-size:

Finally, this one’s mostly just for me: Tamashii Nations, the company that’s been making those beautifully articulated Sailor Senshi figures, also has a line called the “Tamashii Buddies” (which mostly consists of Dragonball Z characters at the moment). While mini-Usagi here is still in development, she’s also pretty much the cutest thing I’ve ever seen, and you can bet that she’ll be available Stateside once she’s done.

Speaking of those articulated figures: they’re all at Comic-Con together, and they’re spectacular.

If you’ve been keeping up with the series like you know I have, then you’ll notice that there aren’t any new additions—no Pluto, Chibimoon, or Tuxedo Mask yet. But seeing them all together is just the most beautiful thing. Can you all please be on my desk, now?
