Bring Your Gauntlets! Scarlett Johansson Could Star in Creature from the Black Lagoon Remake

Screen Actors Gilled.

But not as the Creature itself???? I quit this garbage Earth.

According to The Tracking Board, the “Untitled Universal Monster Franchise Film” currently slated for release in April, 2017 may be a long-rumored remake of the 1954 classic Creature from the Black Widow Lagoon, about a group of scientists terrorized by a half-human, half-fish “gill-man.”

Scarlett Johansson has reportedly been approached to star in the lady-scientist role originated by Julie Adams, although as anyone who saw her in last year’s Under the Skin can attest,

However, Collider points out that Universal may be punching a little out of their bracket by pursuing Johansson for Monster Bonanza 2017 (especially considering a director isn’t even attached yet); aside from likely schedule conflicts with Captain America: Civil War and Ghost in the Shell, if the studio is sticking to a similar budget as the $70 million Dracula Untold, it seems unlikely they’ll be able to afford a star of Johansson’s caliber.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$

$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Although I’m deeply offended on the gill-man’s behalf that he’s not considered the true star of a movie named after him (ditto Universal’s upcoming Mummy movie; if this is a “monster universe” why are the monsters not getting top gilling billing?), it would definitely be interesting to see Johansson in a classic scream queen role.

What do you guys think of this potential reboot?
