BAD IDEAS FROM SMART PEOPLE

Buffy on Buffy

I think it’s a horrible idea. To try to do a Buffy without Joss Whedon, I mean that’s, like, honestly, to be incredibly non-eloquent: that’s the dumbest idea I’ve ever heard.

Sarah Michelle Gellar, when asked about the upcoming Joss-Whedonless Buffy the Vampire Slayer Movie remake.

When asked whether the the reboot was still going forward, screenwriter Whit Anderson tweeted:

I know, Hollywood takes forEVER! But yes! It is still in the works.

Lovely.

I’m cautiously optimistic. Or, at least, I want to be. Probably against my better judgment.

‘Course, said better judgment realizes the movie will probably be a travesty in which Buffy becomes the Chosen One and terror of the demon world who inexplicably needs a big handsome man to ride in and save her when the BBEG captures her via the Standard Female Grab Area. It also expects the Smurfette Principle to be in overdrive (for obvious reasons).

    One word; nuTrek.

Yes, Joss is boss and the last time the Kuzuis made a Buffy movie they REALLY messed it up, but no one can say with 100% certainty that this will be a bad movie.

I’m too lazy to reiterate what I’ve already said on this so, er, plug; http://amidstdancers.blogspot.com/2009/07/buffy-movie-rehash.html

I’m also cautiously optimistic, but it helps to remember that Whedon wasn’t the only person who worked on Buffy. There were writers, producers, and ultimately a network to satisfy and all of those hands made Buffy the show we know and love.

I’d rather see an original idea than a rehashing of something that has already been done.
