Battlestar Galactica‘s Ron Moore Is Heading Back to Syfy with Helix

We’ve heard a little bit of scuttlebutt about Helix, the upcoming thriller from Battlestar Galactica creator Ron Moore. And now we’ll finally get to see it.

Syfy has placed a 13-episode order for the show, which Deadline describes as being about ”a team of scientists investigating a possible disease outbreak.” (Is there going to be a dog in it or…?) Moore will co-produce, while Steven Maeda (Lost, Lie to Me) will step up as showrunner.

Says Syfy exec Mark Stern:

“With its well-drawn characters, taut drama, and incredible production team, we couldn’t be more excited to see this intense thrill-ride of a series come to life.”

And now it’s time for a confession: I have never watched BSG. I know, I know. It’s on the list, and I have several friends who love it more than life itself, but it just never happened. So. With Moore’s new series beginning production soon and slated to debut later this year, let me make a solemn pledge in front of anyone who happens to be reading this: By the time Helix premieres, I will have watched all of Battlestar Galactica.

So say we all.

    Thank you. Pray for me.

I’ve not seen more of BSG than the first episode. It’s on my list too…but then my list is very very long so it’s one of many ‘I must watch this some time’ shows!

Well, judging from BSG (and if Helix even gets as many season), the first two seasons will be awesome, the third ok, the first half of season 4 cool and the last half will destroy the whole series. (and if you don’t count the first three seasons of DS9 since the real story only started with season 4, the result is much the same).

Yes, I’m very embittered. I loved this show, but now I couldn’t care less about it. So while I’ll most certainly give Helix a chance (the premise sounds really interesting) I doubt I could be as enthusiastic as I was with BSG.

That’s what gave us that final push to watch it, and stop putting it off. It’s so accurate to what happens to you after you see it too.

Watched the entire BSG series not once, but three times… :) Hmmm… I think its time to watch again!

Rebecca, do yourself a favor when watching BSG (which I totally recommend you do): About halfway through the fourth season, just flat-out STOP. Don’t watch the atrocious ending to the series, and instead come up with your own; what you imagine will be FAR better than the reality.

If I could go back and take this advice, believe me, I WOULD.

I finally got round to watching it last year. My eyeballs still haven’t rehydrated :D
