Will Richard Ayoade Host The Great British Bake Off?

giphy-3

The Great British Bake Off fans (including Anna Kendrick) have been coping with the show’s move from BBC to Channel 4 and the sad void left by the loss of long-time hosts Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc, who announced they were not “going with the dough.” The show also lost Mary Berry with the move, who announced she was to stay with BBC out of loyalty.

With this news, there’s been speculation about who might take the hosts’ place and whether their buns will be round enough. After all, no one likes a soggy bottom. Apparently, a popular choice is IT Crowd’s Richard Ayoade. The Sun reports that a source called the comedian/director/actor the “leading candidate” and “a really popular choice at the minute, as many think he’s got a great character that would bring a great spark to the show.” They add that Ayoade’s “got a wonderful off-beat sense of humour, which would really fit the change of channel–and would no doubt be a popular choice with viewers too.”

Ayoade is certainly a good choice, as he’s consistently funny on British television and would no doubt have some great commentary. Still, it’s hard to picture anyone replacing the charisma and dynamic between the original hosts. What do you think?
