Haunting Image of Professor X From the Third Wolverine Movie, Logan, Has Us Excited

Recommended Videos

The X-Men movies’ Professor X has already gotten a slightly older version in Days of Future Past—not to mention a younger version thanks to James McAvoy—but Hugh Jackman’s final Wolverine outing is bringing us the furthest-flung future version of the Professor yet. In Logan, we’ll see an aging Wolverine dealing with a diminishing healing factor, and this new image of Patrick Stewart’s Professor X shows that he’s getting up there himself.

The age work they’ve done is especially impressive when you consider a. how well it holds up in such an extreme closeup, and b. how the real-life Patrick Stewart doesn’t seem to age at all. It’s also a pretty moody way to plug your upcoming superhero flick, which is probably an indicator of the tone they’d like to set. Stewart teased a while back that Charles Xavier would have more than a passing role to play in the final Wolverine installment, and more recently, details emerged indicating that the Professor may be having trouble controlling his powers as his health deteriorates.

Moody rumination on aging superheroes, here we come. Logan is set for March 3, 2017.
