“Mommy Tummy” Has a Kicking Balloon Fetus

It's Aliiiiiiiiiiiive!

Japanese researchers have developed the “Mommy Tummy,” a jacket that allows men to get an idea of what it’s like to carry a fetus for nine months. Nothing goes inside of course, but what sets it apart from your usual strap-on belly is that it’s filled with water and lined with balloons that are wired up to act like a fetus. Wait wait, hear us out for a second. If you caress the belly, the “fetus” will respond by “kicking,” and the balloons will inflate. The size also expands over the course of nine months.

Now, if they can only figure out a way to have something rest directly on a dude’s bladder and/or sciatic nerve, then we’ll be impressed. Scratch all that: When they figure out a way to simulate labor and delivery, then we’ll be impressed. There’s your mission, technology. We’ll just wait over here.
