Officially Official
Powers Pilot Greenlit by FX
by Jamie Frevele | 5:38 pm, February 26th
A pilot based on Powers, the creator-owned comic by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Oeming, has officially been greenlit by FX. The announcement came via Bendis’ Twitter and Facebook pages, and does not give any dates or time frames. But what makes this extra cool is that Powers is one of the first creator-owned comics to be adapted into a television series.
Powers, which has been running since 2000, is a police-procedural comic about detectives Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim, the former of which secretly had and lost superpowers, the latter of which secretly gained them (and secretly accidentally murdered her abusive ex-boyfriend). Kind of like Law & Order, if the lead detectives were investigating the superhero community. Or were secret superheroes. In fact, Bendis was directly inspired by the book that spawned Homicide: Life on the Street, which featured Detective John Munch, who was later on Law & Order: SVU. Now published by Marvel‘s Icon Comics, Powers was originally published by Image Comics, which owns The Walking Dead, which has also been turned into a rather successful series that you may have heard of.
