Buddy Cops in a Superhero Universe, Powers Adaptation Gets New Life on Playstation Consoles

and let it be known

We’ve been rooting forĀ Brian Michael-BendisPowers to reach screens for a while now. The comic follows the lives of detectives Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim, one an ex-superhero who lost his powers and the other a very tricky, faceted character indeed, and has been in various states of happening and not happening at Sony for around three years now.

The newest development on the project certainly proves that somebody at Sony is committed to bringing it to fruition. Deadline is reporting that Powers will now be made as a ten episode (or so) series to premiere as the first original television programming for the Playstation Network.

Its first show will be hourlong dramaĀ Powers, based on the graphic novel by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon OemingPowers for PlayStation represents a brand new take on the source material, penned by Charlie Huston.

Charlie Huston also worked on the pilot for the version of the show that Sony produced in 2012, but never aired. Much of the producing team has also been retained from previous iterations of Powers, but it’s safe to assume that a new cast will be brought in. Lucy Punch and Jason Patric played Pilgrim and Walker in the initial pilot but have understandably moved on to other projects.

They say that the third time is the charm, but for Powers I hope the Nth time’s the charm. Even if Gotham is shaping up to be interesting, there are never enough cop procedurals set in a superhero universe for my taste.
