New Years Resolutions for 10 of Our Favorite Fandoms

Allow Us To Explain

Allow Us To Explain

Congratulations on making it to 2012, everyone! The end and beginning of several major film franchises, the return of the breakout genre television shows of 2011, and all before the Mayan apocalypse heralds in… the scrambled announcement of the new this-time-for-realz-yo date for the Apocalypse. But until then we’ve got a great round of fandom to enjoy (or revile, there’s always that possibility) and with that in mind we’d like to offer some advice.

The beginning of the year is often a time for reflection and personal improvement, and in the spirit of that we’d like to offer some suggested New Years resolutions for our favorite fandoms and the characters within. No, of course suggesting New Years resolutions for other people isn’t rude.

It shows that you care.

The Who and Trek paragraphs seem to cut off early :( I was super agreeing with the Trek one and would like to see the rest!

Should be fixed now. Quotation marks can be the scourge of our grids.

Why is Nightwing listed on the page “The Women of DC and Marvel”?

That’s right Agent Coulson. He is totally totally perfect.

Ahahaha. I forgot to take him out when I decided last minute to change the title. /badpokerface

The third paragraph seems to have some stuff cut out of it and incorrectly says SMITH is changing the show’s format when it’s actually MOFFAT. Also, Moffat said on Twitter that a film is years away and would be done by the BBC and would be in cannon, so that seems to settle a lot of the questions surrounding it.

Have to disagree about WHO: It’s been getting stronger and stronger with the Matt Smith/Moffat era, while the RTD era was a bit more like a reversal on the old Star Trek “curse”. Series one was brilliant, series two was weak; three was the best of the RTD era, and four was really strong, but ended on a very weak note with Journey’s End. As for the specials, well, the Water’s of Mars was excellent, but David Tennant’s goodbye story was a bit of a mess, though his final scene was excellent.

Does it though? He says that but Yates says it will be a fresh, new take.

It’s a very good time to be a geek. Avengers, Hobbits, and Zombies, oh my! Not to mention Game of Thrones, Dark Knight, Spider-Man, and everything in between.

Game of Thrones Season 2 is right around the corner. Happy happy joy joy!

Totally agree about Doctor Who. The season finale was a total shit fest. The Christmas special was no peach, either. I love River, but I think she has become a bit of a crutch.

I have to say that I, too am really excited about the Hunger Games, but also really really worried about it. A lot of the book takes place in Katniss’ head. I feel like there is a really large risk that it will be a huge action movie and totally eschew the psychological aspect.

Doctor Who – keep up what you’re doing. and River, well, they just should make something called spin-off,coz, you know, I would love to see as much alex kingston in the role of River, as possible.

I totally disagree on the Doctor Who front, for me it’s just getting better and better.
Well except for the bit about Canton, I would love to see him turn up again. In my mind its a battle between him and Sally Sparrow for new companion!

Many that get filmmakers’ attention deserve obscurity. Some that get obscurity deserve filmmakers’ attention. Can you give it to them, Mary Sue? Do not be too eager to deal out snark in judgment.

Finally an honest review of Doctor Who!  Stephen Moffat is not God, he is great, and Lord knows Sherlock is like the best think in the universe right now, but he is not God. Season 5 of Doctor Who was incredible and fun and heartfelt and all that doctor who should be, I hope that is what the last of Matt Smith era will  be too. I say, next show runner of Doctor Who, let’s get Mark Gatiss in there!

And yes, River Song, kinda go away now. I just…. go away now please.

Hate to break it to you, but Walking Dead season 2 was pretty freaking terrible.
Number one on anyone’s on that show resolution list should be “Spend any amount of time researching women’s health”. Confusing chemical abortions with a morning after pill (called The Morning After Pill) is some middle-school-rumors level idiocy. They should be embarrassed.

Also, Daryl’s should be “Quit eating squirrels off your zombie hunting arrows, What is wrong with you?!”
and Andrea should go more like “Take your guns and be awesome, punch the haters in the face.”
    My Opinions!

Break it to whom exactly? We said it wasn’t very good.

Also, the show didn’t confuse anything with the morning after pill, the character was desperate and took it because she didn’t know what else to do. I’m pretty sure the creators know the difference.

HEY – The boy with the bread – his name is spelled Peeta, not Peta. Sheesh, Mary Sue.
