Netflix Wants to Give Parents an Early Night With New Year’s Eve Countdowns

Recommended Videos

While the countdown is one of the most exciting parts of New Year’s Eve, all the noisemakers and yelling that come with the celebration can seem pretty uninviting for parents with children who have bedtimes. Since 2014, Netflix has brought on-demand countdowns so parents can celebrate New Year’s Eve with their kids and still put them to bed before midnight.

By searching “Countdown,” you’ll see a bunch of videos from Netflix’s popular children’s shows like Beat BugsPuffin Rock, Trollhunters, and others, that let you ring in 2017 a little earlier. It’s a cute idea that lets kids gets excited about New Year’s with their favorite characters from their favorite shows. Netflix has also provided a list of 15 shows “kids are most likely to watch back-to-back-to-back” for New Years Day so parents can “get a little more shut-eye.” This list includes Voltron: Legendary Defender, Pokemon: Indigo League, LEGO Friends, and more.

Of course, unless you’re in Tonga you can also celebrate early by tuning into another country’s countdown which can be a lot of fun. (Might I suggest the Taipei 101 show my family watches every year?) How do you plan on counting down to 2017?
