Mr. Wizard: Master of Science and Crotchetiness

Watch Mr. Wizard, a science education program that ran during the 50s and 60s, purported to teach children about the “science behind ordinary things.” But, if you’re like me and you’ve never saw the program, this fan cut video might lead you to believe it was just a show about an old guy being, well, kind of a dick to children. Then again, maybe I wouldn’t have given up on organic chemistry in college if Mr. Wizard had been there to correct my every move.

“But, if you’re like me and you’ve never saw the program”

    *poit*

That new gray hair is just for you.

Before Bill Nye, before Beakman, there was Mr. Wizard.  And he made science more cool and interesting than any teachers, and was streets ahead of that Johnny Mathis-looking guy on Search For Science.

I used to love this show!  But please don’t make me feel so old.  These clips are from Mr. Wizard’s World (his second show) that ran on Nickelodeon in the 1980s.

I used to watch this show and 321Contact back in the 1980′s.  The clips are all from the 80′s version of the show.

”You’ve never saw” this program, I guess.  Does that look like the 50′s and 60s?  Or more like the 80′s?

“But, if you’re like me”…  I’m not, as this was one of my favorite 80s shows.  NOT 50s-60s!

It’s not Mr. Wizard who is the dick, it’s *science.* Science is a dick. And yeah, this show was on when I was a kid, which wasn’t *quite* as long ago as the 50s and 60s.
