Prequel to Monsters Inc. Confirmed

Disney Pixar has confirmed a prequel to Monsters Inc., in which its star monsters, Sully and Mike will meet and become friends. Because according to the press release, that is not how their relationship began:
Everybody knows at this point Mike and Sulley are amazing friends, the best of friends, but as it turns out in this story, that wasn’t always the case. From the moment they met at university, they couldn’t stand each other.
This story takes you through the ups and downs, and how they overcame their own differences.
So, it’s kind of in between Aaahh!!! Real Monsters and the first movie. But it’s definitely an about-face from the scrapped sequel, which was supposed to be about Boo growing up and the monsters searching for her. My guess is that much like Toy Story 3, there would have been much crying involved.
Monsters University is expected to be released on November 2, 2012 and does not have a director attached. (The original director, Pete Docter, is working on his own “top secret project” slated for 2013 or 2014.) It is also worth mentioning that there is a Dreamworks project called Boo U, about ghosts going to “scare school.” One for ghost people, one for monster people. I guess that’s why they keep doing that?
