Well, the princess is an administrator/leader type as well as a warrior, and there’d be a fair bit of work to do on that score, as well as on behalf of any Alderaanian refugees (just to take the most obvious path). What’s the point in lining up the actors before you have, oh, a studio to shoot in, or a signed effects contract or other things like that. You can (if need be) make the movie without Mark Hamill far more easily than you can make the movie without cameras or set designers.

But it’s nice that they are talking to the principals. I hope Leia stayed in politics. I always pictured Han as dying young (burning out rather than fading away) but one never knows …

The only character I really want to see come back is Luke. With a beard.
Him falling into a similar role as Ben Kenobi would really help with
bridging the original trilogy with the new one and it wouldn’t be that
much of a stretch for us to accept an old Jedi Master as opposed to an
old smuggler or princess.

I don’t think we need them to come back. As much as I’d love to catch up with Luke and Han, truly it would be amazing, I’d rather they start as fresh as possible with new characters.

I know they don’t want to go with the EU, but I really enjoyed Legacy and think it would be a good jumping off point.

Seriously? How can we possibly take the Disney people seriously, if they’re “too busy” to meet with the most iconic actors of Star Wars? The people who ARE Star Wars?? Take the meeting on time, and then you can do next steps as you need.

I wouldn’t put too much weight on what this may or may not mean. They are still in the writing phase and are probably just testing the waters to see if bringing some of the original characters back in is a realistic option.
