Two Teaser Trailers For Man of Steel Have Landed, With Multiple Capes

Two different trailers for Zack Snyder’s Superman film, Man of Steel, are playing before The Dark Knight Rises and I saw neither (the IMAX showing didn’t have any trailers). But thankfully, as these things do, they’ve arrived online. And yes, these are teaser trailers that actually live up to the name. The first features Kevin Costner’s Jonathan Kent doing a voiceover while the one after the jump has Superman’s biological father Jor-El, played by Russell Crowe, doing the honors (plus a few different clips).

Man of Steel hits theaters June 13, 2013.

Nice to hear LoTR music making the rounds.  Adds a nice ethereal nature to it all.

The teaser pretty much dashed any hopes that I had of this movie not sucking. And I wasn’t alone: at the midnight screening of TDKR, even though all the other trailers had gotten cheers and clapping from the audience, this one was met with dead silence. Not one person seemed at all happy to see it.

So I was watching this trailer for the Batman movie yesterday and I was so sad because Kal-El was so sad because Gandalf just fell into the bottomless pitt thing with the devil-monster and Frodo is crying and Aragorn is saying “By nightfall these mountains will be SWARMING WITH ORCS”–WAIT A MINUTE. Duh, Zack Snyder, everyone knows “Army of Me” is the appropriate theme to Superman.

It’s a pretty underwhelming trailer but I don’t think we can judge the movie just yet. This is merely a teaser. All it gives us is some vague, realistic imagery and the usual “You’re going to change the world” speeches. I’ll wait until I see a full trailer and get more of a feel for where they’re going with this.

I just worry that there’s going to be an hour and a half of Clark Kent “finding himself” and wallowing in existential angst, and then the last 30 minutes will be the actual superhero flick.

I’m still incredibly dubious about whether Zack Snyder has the subtlety and restraint required to pull this off, but I enjoyed the second trailer at the movie on Thursday night and I guess I have to keep trusting Nolan. That’s worked out so far.

I’m with you there. Superman is supposed to be an uplifting story about success – this makes me want to slit my wrists.

Nolan is a fool. You can’t do Superman like you did Batman. This dark crap isn’t going to sell to the public.

    Still missing Christopher Reeve…

They showed The Hobbit trailer also and I was all, “LAME NOT EVEN THE HOBBIT TRAILER HAS LORD OF THE RINGS MUSIC LIKE THE SUPERMAN TRAILER.” Zack Snyder wouldn’t have let that pass, like Gandalf, just before the devil-monster got him and made Superman so sad he decided to grow a super-beard and join up with the Deadliest Catch. Oh, Superman. Cheer up, buddy.

Love how they stole music from Lord of the Rings.

haha, yes, because when people think of Super Man what comes to mind is subtlety and restraint.

This is an ambitious project, though, and does call for a level of craft and seriousness.
I’m undecided as to whether or not it will be good enough to get excited for, but I think it’ll be worth seeing.

To be fair, even though Nolan is a producer on this, it’s Snyder’s vision.

This will be the 6th Superman movie and they’re STILL rehashing the Donner movies. I’ll pass.

I was so distracted by that when I saw the trailer at The Dark Knight Rises that I could barely pay attention to the trailer. All I could hear was Elijah Wood screaming “GANDAAAAALF!!” in my head.

I tried to keep an open mind, but the double cloudstreaks left by Superman at the end had me groaning! Mr Snyder, the point is that he is NOT a plane!

Yeah, Batman is an entirely different mood.  That’s one of the reasons I don’t understand comparisons between The Avengers and The Batman Trilogy, because though they are superhero stories, they are vastly different in tone, style, and story.

I want to pay attention to the trailer, but all I can see are crying hobbits. D:

Damnit, Henry Cavill, I need your big break to NOT be lame like this trailer! You’re too hot to star in a potential bomb! I need to see you naked on screen again, so your career needs to thrive!! Geeze

Hope he isn’t a peeping tom like in the last film
