Lynne Yoshii, A Woman The Comic Industry Needs

  1. 1.Wonder Woman Wonder Woman

There are a lot of women creators out there but not all of them get the attention they deserve. Lynne Yoshii has worked as an editor for Marvel Comics but from what I've seen, she should be on of their A-list artists. Check out a sampling of Yoshii's (Protokitty on DeviantArt) work and see if you agree.

  2. 2.Cheetarah Cheetarah
  3. 3.X-Men X-Men
  4. 4.Poison Ivy Poison Ivy
  5. 5.Spider-Man & Gwen Stacy Spider-Man & Gwen Stacy
  6. 6.Talia al Ghul Talia al Ghul
  7. 7.Wolverine Wolverine
  8. 8.Hulk & She-Hulk Hulk & She-Hulk
  9. 9.Hawkgirl Hawkgirl
  10. 10.Black Widow Black Widow
  11. 11.Storm Storm
  12. 12.Batwoman Batwoman

    Wow. She is good.

  • Maureen Evans

Oh. My. God. Their boobs are shaped like… actual boobs.

Not a single broken back to be found! Realistic, attractive bodies in human poses! Very nice!

  • Robert Vary

I don’t understand, why can’t I see their boobs and asses at the same time?

I am very impressed, especially since it looks like she is used markers to do some of this work. It is not an easy medium to work with!

    That Batwoman is amazing!!

With utter and complete respect for her talent, and knowing she definitely will get there fairly soon, I don’t think she’s quiiite up to par for professional work. The anatomy’s a bit shaky, there’s some disappearing bodyparts in some places, hands have issues. The biggest problem is her general lack of line weighting, I think. Which is EPIC hard to do, so I don’t blame her.

But like I said, serious talent swimming around in there. The atmosphere, color choices, and obvious passion for it are just… great. Just maybe a year or two more dedicated work on it and she absolutely could be in he running and I’m totally rooting for her.

I kind of prefer the more muscular She-Hulk, but other than that these are amazing.

I really like those. To be an artist in comics, you need to be good with action scenes though and there is none in there. Still, she’s showing she could be at worse a very good cover artist.

I read all your critiques and so long as Liefield continues to get work this artist should have been hired ages ago.

I’m just happy she gave She-Hulk pants.

Thanks for the shout out. This made my day!

I was slightly shocked to see that Jean Grey lost half her body somewhere in Cyclop’s head. But really still so much better than other artists. I mean look there’s real feet!

The solution to shitty artists isn’t hiring so-so artists, it’s firing the shitty artists.

  • http://wrongsirwrong.blogspot.com/ Magic Xylophone

I’m sorry, but I gotta take issue with this. There are prominent anatomical errors in all but the Storm and Cheetara ones. Even basic stuff like arms being different lengths, knees being on the wrong side, and faces being asymmetrical.

i dont know what makes her art different. I think it’s because it’s anti frank cho. more emphasis in the face and the colors than the curves.

I love that the women have a presence and strength conveyed by their poses and faces.

The solution is firing shitty artists and replacing them with better artists.  Aaaand so-so is better than shitty.  And in this case, the “so-so artist” has room to grow while the shitty artist has been working steadily without any significant improvement for going on 25 years now.  Sorry dude, but unless she is actively refusing it, there’s no good reason major publishers aren’t busting down her door to offer a steady stream of professional work.

In fairness, actual human faces aren’t often that symmetrical either. Which isn’t to say it’s not a mistake, or that it’s okay in art of people who are supposed to look perfect, but no one wants computer-mirrored faces either, and I know that’s a technique some artists use. Also, is it just me or does the Wolverine seem to not have a nose?
Still great though, and way better than I could ever do, of course! She’s certainly MUCH better than several of the DC artists I can think of.

I like how all the women look sexy WITHOUT ridiculously unrealistic proportions.  See folks?  It IS possible!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100003037095323 Jerilyn Nighy

You make it sound as if the majority of artists in comics over the past century have only depicted women with unrealistic proportions.

  • http://twitter.com/Super_Widget Joanna

I really don’t mind sexy characters.  It’s the really awful trashy looking characters that some people THINK is sexy that bothers me.  These characters here, whether the artist were male or female, are tastefully sexy.
