Hello Sweetie

Karen Gillan’s New TV Gig Will Have Her Fighting Crime, Playing with High-Tech Gadgets, Kidnapping an Alien. Par for the Course, Really.

I must admit, I’d never heard of NTSF:SD:SUV:: before I read that Karen Gillan would be joining its cast as her first post-Doctor Who TV project. But now that I know what it is—and that Gillan will be in it—I’m more than a little intrigued.

For those, like myself, to whom NTSF:SD:SUV::* is just a bunch of letters, here’s the run-down: It’s is a live-action police procedural spoof that airs as part of Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim block. In addition to Gillan, it stars Paul Scheer, June Diane Raphael, Brandon Johnson, Martin Starr, Kate Mulgrew, and Rebecca Romijn as members of the eponymous international crimefighting agency. Gillan will join that team as Daisy, the resident tech expert. (I’m sure being on Doctor Who has gotten her used to technobabble, right? I can’t imagine she’ll get to say anything as cool as “It goes ding when there’s stuff,” though.)

Per Digital Spy, “The show’s third season will see the team kidnapping an alien, having to fake their own deaths and undergoing face-swapping surgery.”

That… doesn’t sound very different from what one might find on one of the crackier episodes of Doctor Who, really. Or even some of the not-so-cracky episodes. The whole “kidnapping an alien” thing is positively mundane by Doctor Who‘s standards. And fake dying (well, non-permanent real dying) was more Rory’s thing than Amy’s, but Amy sort-of-died a few times herself.

I think she’ll fit in just fine.

*The title stands for “National Terrorism Strike Force: San Diego: Sport Utility Vehicle,” if you’re curious.

It’s good to see that the interrodroid is still getting work

I’m pretty stoked for this, actually. Good to see KG branch out a bit.

Like many of Adult Swim’s shows, it’s a lot better than, say, earlier shows on Adult Swim would lead you to believe. The Comic-Con episode they did was brilliant.
We clearly need to get Arthur Darvill on Children’s Hospital now. As Rory, who of course, heals the sick.

Wait, so let me get this straight. This show has a Star Trek captain, a Doctor Who companion, and Mystique all on it? That’s crazy!

So that’s Kate Mulgrew, Rebecca Romijn, Karen Gillan AND Interrodroid?

  • Lance Bravestar

Oh shit yes this is amazing news! I’ve always seen NTSF as the modern-day “Police Squad!”

  • Dwigt

Romijn has a show on TNT coming this summer and she’s the tech expert in charge. It’s likely that Gillan is her replacement.

Look out Amy! You’re standing next to Madame Kovarian!

With Gillian on NTSF now I demand they do another Time Angels episode

I’ve heard of it but never been interested in it…until now.
