States With the Worst Anti-LGBTQIA Laws Watch the Most Black Gay Porn

There’s a great bit in Margaret Cho’s Assassin where she says, “If you’re against same sex marriage but you laugh your ass off to Will & Grace, F#@K YOU. You are a hypocrite, and you’re not allowed to pick and choose what you like from our culture, and leave behind the burden of inequality.” Likewise, gay porn?

The Daily Dot recently presented an analysis of data the site Pornhub collected about its users — state-by-state statistics on not only how many people watch gay porn, but who’s doing the watching and what they’re searching for. The information might surprise you. Then again, knowing how hypocrisy works, it might not.

Mississippi and North Carolina, two states that have some of the worst records when it comes to LGBTQIA rights—not to mention some of the most awful histories with regard to race—apparently love them some gay porn starring black men.

Mississippi is the fourth-largest consumer of gay porn on the site behind Washington D.C., New York, and Florida. North Carolina is also on the list of top-searchers for gay porn. And what gay porn are they watching? “Black,” of course. In fact, while categories like “straight guys” are popular in the West and Midwest, “Black guys” is the most popular gay search term all across the Deep South. So…clearly good enough to watch in porn, but not good enough to respect by, I don’t know, not celebrating “Confederate Heritage Month?”

Basically, Pornhub’s gay porn numbers are primarily driven by Southern states in the U.S.

You know who else loves watching gay porn? Young women. According to The Daily Dot:

Depending on the age group, tastes regarding gay porn change. Women aged 18–24 were 83 percent more likely than men to watch gay male content on Pornhub. But as men get older, they appear to loosen up—the proportion of female to male viewers decreased with each increase in age

Of course, this isn’t a surprise to anyone who’s ever read geeky slash fan fiction. Us, is what I’m saying. It isn’t a surprise to us. Now, if only the Deep South managed to love gay rights as much as it loves gay sex. That would Make America Great.
