D.C.’s Museum of Science Fiction Wants To Pay For Your Design

I volunteer as tribute!

Nonprofit organization The Museum of Science Fiction is an institution in D.C. dedicated solely to you-know-what, and they’re willing to pay $1,000 in Earth currency for the best “preview museum” design to house exhibits in the nation’s capitol.

The organization told I Fucking Love Science that the museum will emphasize “creators, vehicles, time travel concepts, aliens, computers, robots and technology.” The nonprofit plans to open the preview museum for four years to promote interest in a dedicated Science Fiction institution in D.C. and ideally secure the collection an eventual permanent location. Exhibits will be housed on a rotating basis in a 3,000-4,0000-square-foot hall with room for at least seven displays and 150 visitors at a time (probably more if any of you budding engineers manage to rig up a working TARDIS). To be eligible for the competition, participants must be students, designers, or architects, and register by 5 p.m. E.T. on October 31st.

According to the museum’s website, “Exhibit designs should emphasize the multi-use aspect of the space and creative ways to safely reconfigure the exhibits to provide open space for events, ideas for immersive and interactive environments, and ways to incorporate technology.” In other words, leave ample room for lightsaber battles, please. Now, boldly go!
