Gather Your Galleons: Harry Potter Movies Returning to IMAX to Celebrate Fantastic Beasts Release

Recommended Videos

It’s a good time to be a Harry Potter fan. Between the patronus quiz that launched on Pottermore a few weeks ago and the impending release of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, we’re reaching fever-levels of Harry Potter hype. Now, though, we’ve got something else to get excited about: all of the Harry Potter movies are returning to IMAX theaters in a big ol’ lead up to the Fantastic Beasts release.

This is the first time that the first two Harry Potter movies (Philosopher’s Stone and Chamber of Secrets) are going to be screened in IMAX. All the other movies have had their turns on the massive screen during their own releases, but those two are being remastered and redone for this event. Kicking off this event, as well, are the Fantastic Beasts events taking place all over the world on October 13th. We recently shared the news that due to demand, those events have expanded to even more cities, so if you want to get in on all this magical action, you might just yet be able to.

Note, though, that this Harry Potter IMAX re-release isn’t a movie marathon; it’s a festival of sorts. The re-release is supposed to be stretched out over an entire week, so maybe don’t plan on camping out in a theater or anything like that. Believe me, that’s kind of a good thing, speaking as someone who sat through all the Star Wars movies right before the world premiere of The Force Awakens. It was tough dealing with those six movies; I can’t imagine sitting through eight Harry Potter flicks. Ouch.
