Rumor of the Day: Karen Gillan to Play Kickass Space Pirate Queen in Guardians of the Galaxy

Fact From the Vapor of Nuance

Oh, you’d forgotten that Benicio Del Toro, Lee Pace, and Karen Gillan were in Guardians of the Galaxy? Should I remind you that Glenn Close, Zoe Saldana, Chris Pratt and John C. Reilly are also on board?

There’s no telling at this juncture whether this will be the best superhero team movie ever made, but it stands a good chance of being the craziest. Remember: we don’t even know who’ll be voicing the anthropomorphic raccoon commando yet.

Today’s casting rumor from the swirling world of who all these folks will be playing in the James Gunn-directed installment of Marvel’s Phase II concerns the few castmembers who have not been confirmed to one role or another. Surprisingly, many of the names above have been confirmed for roles: Saldana and Pratt are two members of the core team of the Guardians of the Galaxy, Gamora and Star-Lord, respectively. Close and Reilly are both said to be Nova Corps leaders, so basically Chris Pratt, Star-Lord’s, bosses. According to Den of Geek’s “solid source,” we might now know who a few more of these folks are going to be portraying.

According to their information, Benicio Del Toro will be playing The Collector, a character whose name has been mentioned in rumors about the film before. Lee Pace will be filling in as Ronan the Accuser, an alien high judge who began his role in the Marvel Universe as a Fantastic Four villain, but has strayed more to the side of good over time. And Karen Gillan will not be playing the Neil Gaiman character Angela, which was suggested by some particularly spurious rumors, but rather Nebula, a powerful space pirate who heads an armada, and a character who has occasionally become a threat to even the mad titan Thanos himself.

Yes. According to rumor, Karen Gillan will be playing a kickass space pirate lady at the head of a bloodthirsty space pirate army. And I’m perfectly okay with that.
