Golden Probe Awards Highlights Sexist Reproductive Rights Policies in Parody Award Show

Recommended Videos

Sometimes I wish I could give out (very, very sarcastic) awards for the terrible sleights and deeds that are carried out against women on a nearly daily basis. For this reason, I’m finding myself very excited for Lady Parts Justice’s Golden Probe Awards, an awards show that recognizes “outstanding achievements in the fields of sexism and anti-abortion extremism.” In a parody of a traditional awards nomination announement, Broad City stars Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer announce the award categories, including things like, “Outstanding Performance in an Unscripted Outburst;” “Outstanding Writing Using Sharpie, Hobby Lobby Supplies, and/or Microsoft Paint;” and “Legislature of the Year.”

At its core, the show is a way of injecting a bit of humor into highlighting the laws and policies regarding reproductive rights that have come to the fore in recent years. Quite a few horrendous laws have been enacted across the country, and Lady Parts Justice, an organization that seeks to “expose creeps hellbent on destroying access to birth control and abortion,” wants to call out the law and policymakers behind each and every one of them.

The awards show, which takes place on October 2nd, is also a benefit for Lady Parts Justice, and will be livestreamed on the internet on the Golden Probes website. If you’re in New York, you can also purchase a ticket to watch the proceedings live in person. They’re a bit pricey, but you know your money’s going to a really good cause.

Will you be tuning in when October 2nd rolls around?
