Game of Thrones Character Posters Promise Us That “All Men Must Die.” Oh, Good.

[View All on One Page]

Or, in High Valyrian, “Valar Morgulis.” Can’t we get posters that say “All men must pet puppies and eat ice cream cake?” The characters of Game of Thrones need a break. Except Joffrey and Littlefinger. They can die.

The Game of Thrones Twitter account shared 18 of these characters posters—of Arya, Tyrion, what Starks are left, the usual bunch—yesterday, and they’ve revealed a few more this morning. Daario and Melisandre, to be specific. We’ll keep adding more as they get shared, so check back.

I got to the Joffrey one and just went “Is that a promise?” (I know enough about the books to know something is coming for him but I don’t know any more than that.)

In my opinion, these are so much nicer than the season 3 character posters. The faces are much less washed out and have much more expression.

  • SheriB

    Wow, some cool black-and-white photographs.

Now that I’ve read the books, watching the show is going to be even more painful. “You’re gonna die, and so are you, oh, and you, too…” T.T

I can’t agree more. These all look incredibly beautiful.

“But we are not men.” – Khaleesi That’s what I think hers should say. :)

I found I liked S3 better than the previous two when I hadn’t read the books. It’s fun looking for the changes, and the anticipation just kills you.

I’m looking forward to it for the same reason I love watching “2001: A Space Odyssey” with people who haven’t seen it yet: to enjoy their “WTF” reactions.

oof. that pic of Jamie. I have a totally twisted love for the Kingslayer. Though I guess twisted is how he rolls ;)

Same! Just looking at his face made me a giddy with anticipation. Jack does SUCH a good job making us hate him.

The response “valar dohaeris” (“all men must serve”) – gives the phrase a bit of a different spin. It’s a call and response for the faceless men.

Most looking forward to the duo of Arya and The Hound!

    I see white people!

  • MeatyStakes

    Dany looks boss as hell.

  • MeatyStakes

As mainstream media at large, you must be color blind then.

Thank you! I’ll be here all week.

But yeah… only the Dornish guy (whose name escapes me right now) isn’t white here. Where is Missandei??

  • Sara Green Williams

I get the pun (take my wife, please!), but I don’t get the context of your first statement – who is mainstream media at large, me or were you referring to someone/thing else?

  • MeatyStakes

Yeah, I just meant that mainstream media only sees white people, non-whites are invisible. The “then you too are colorblind” is only a lame jab at false causality. We only saw white people because because media shows us only white people. Does it makes us complicit at the end? Did this get way too deep?

If I were wittier, it would have been much more hilarious and better put together!

  • Sara Green Williams

Nope, I get it now, just got confused. :) And no, not too deep at all – let’s keep diving! It’s important that we continue to support/demand diversity in the worlds of media, make sure that we *all* behave in an inclusive manner towards each other, and continue to break down the barriers that shouldn’t exist in the first place. In this particular case, GOT is a good show, and I like it, but it’s as white as the snow, and I get bored with watching the same kinds of people over and over again on TV. There’s so much more out there, and variety *is* the spice of life.

“All men must die”… a little sexistic, isn’t it? ;-) How about “To hell with all Lannisters!” ;-)!

Which is funny, since Gleason is *such* a nice guy that he even goes out of his way to tell people that he *doesn’t* get hate from his role (which most people assume.)

I seem to remember from the books that Valar Morgulis (like valonqar, which has a similar prefix and suffix) is gender-neutral. So Dany’s comment doesn’t really work.

Gah, I just put that! I should’ve seen you wrote it first.

  • Eric Xin

I don’t think it work that way. I think it is title are neutral, like no Prince/Princess, King/Queen, Steward/Stewardress. It would be a pretty awful language if they can’t describe someone as male or female.
