X-Men: Days of Future Past Reveals Monster Mutant Cast In 24 Magazine Covers

[View All on One Page]

Yesterday, Empire Magazine revealed one new X-Men: Days of Future Past cover every hour. Because, well, there’s a lot of people in the cast and they figured, what the hell? That’s 24 actors, plus one more for the director, but for some reason we have 26 photos in our slideshow. Hmm…

    I think Colossus look ridiculous.

  • Jake Mertz

Wait, didn’t they cut Rouge from the movie?

  • Anonymous

The photo shoot probably happened before.

  • Anonymous

I didn’t know Blink was in that film. I wished they had kept the pink skin.

  • Anonymous

    Ugh, that Quicksilver is barf-worthy.

  • Isaac Nolan

I think all the covers look pretty decent, I’m personally excited to see Blink in action, especially since she looks almost exactly like she does in the comics. There’s something about the tweet accompanying Kitty Pryde’s cover that has me confused though, the tweet in question being “she walks through walls and travels through time”.

As most of us know, in the film adaption it will be Wolverine travelling back in time instead of Kitty, so why say she “travels through time” in an official tweet concerning the film (it was tweeted by the film’s verified account “xmenmovies”). Here’s hoping that Empire’s article will shed some more light on the matter of Kitty’s role and importance in the film.

Side-note: I’m excited to see what happened to the other “First Class” characters like Banshee and Angel Salvadore, since they won’t be appearing in the film. Maybe the Sentinels got to them early on.

  • Anonymous

Since when is Sunspot white? As for Quicksilver, he looks kind of like what you would think…Euro-trash.

  • Anonymous

    1. They include Rogue even though she’s been cut from the movie? That’s false advertising.
    2. How can I chose between the Ellen Page/Peter Dinklage covers!?
    3. That last one – Whoever he is (pun!) – looked more badass than Wolvie!

(I’m going to pretend I didn’t see the one with Quicksilver. Yeah – Whedon’s got nothing to worry about SInger stealing his thunder…)

  • John W

James MacAvoy as the Amazing Randi, is it magic, or is it real?

Jokes aside I can’t for this to come out because that is one awesome cast.

  • http://www.aeryllou.tumblr.com/ Aeryl

Why is Xavier standing, and when did Rogue come back? Wasn’t that last report that she’d been cut?

  • http://www.aeryllou.tumblr.com/ Aeryl

Yeah, but if I were Singer, I’d have scrambled to have another cover replace it. Surely they have one of Jackman doing something else and he could have three. Or another Sentinel.

I’m thinking they lied. She’s still in, but will probably die early, they just gave us the BS about her being cut so we can be “shocked”.

They probably had this deal in place a while back and figured, why not still show her?

  • http://www.aeryllou.tumblr.com/ Aeryl

Well, as I said below, it’s tingling my “It’s not Khan” senses. Wouldn’t be the first time filmmakers lied to try and cover up a lousy “shocker”

  • http://www.thenerdybird.com/ Jill Pantozzi

I hope they just changed their minds and found a way to work her scene back in.

Or are shooting additional additional scenes *crosses fingers*

Anyone else a little sad that in a franchise that has a bunch of major female characters, only four are appearing in this film. Meanwhile, this film will feature NINETEEN male characters. NINETEEN..In a franchise iflled with strong female characters, we get FOUR. That’s 17%.

In fact, I did the math recently and only NINE female characters have been given both names on screen and had more than one line. Compared that to the 30 male characters(I’m underestimating, but also being kind in counting Lady Deathstrike as a character). That means only 27% of talking named roles in FIVE movies have been female characters.

In the X-Men Franchise…in a franchise which currently has an all female book. 73% of the talking named roles have been male.

Am I really the only one is disturbed by that more than Quicksilver’s ugly costume?

  • Anonymous

Join that with the fact that Rogue’s been cut from the movie and Blink and Kitty will probably only be in it for a short “In the future”, yeah, we’ve got practically an all male cast.

  • kbroxmysox

That’s another good point. The future characters only appear in like the beginning of the film….And the “majority”(I use the word lightly) of female characters are in the future…

So basically the only female we’ll have playing a major role is the naked one(who isn’t naked in comics but is naked in the films because…uh?)

  • kbroxmysox

Trophy? What’s that. I doubt we’ll see hear anything about Banshee, Emma or Angel….Though out of the three, if we hear anything it will be about Banshee. This film has proven that penis = importance.

That’s the magazine biz today, I guess. Always several steps behind the Internet.

  • Anonymous

I think back fondly to the first movie, with Wolverine/Cyclops and Storm/Jean balancing eachother out, with Xavier and Rogue rounding things out.

  • http://www.aeryllou.tumblr.com/ Aeryl

Did Empire miss the last movie? Cuz that still don’t explain why XAVIER IS STANDING!

I saw a trailer clip of him standing, and assumed it was Mystique. But now I’m just confused.

  • Anonymous

Well, they cut the X-Man named Rogue. I don’t think the villain Rouge was ever in it.

  • Katy

I love how Rogue is still in the promotional material, but has been cut from the movie. No wait, I don’t. I hate that she’s been cut for the movie and Toad (TOAD!?! WTF!) is in the movie. Plus, Quicksilver looks horrible. His hair is too dark with an unflattering cut and he looks like Helen Mirren with a bad hair day instead of Evan Peters. Wait! I would gladly pay to see Helen Mirren play Quicksilver. Helen Mirren would look better.

  • Joanna

I really like Bishop. Meh to the rest.

  • Melynda

Why does Wolverine need two covers? Why does Quicksilver look so… horrible. Same with Toad. Lastly, I’m going to predict this is a train wreck already. I really liked First Class. This movie is making me sadder and sadder the more I see coming from it.

  • Anonymous

It was hilarious because some people were apparently complaining they cast a Chinese actress when Blink is ya know, a mutant with pink skin.

  • Anonymous

The future Sentinel looked a little wonky to me but now I’m thinking the fluid look is there to justify the shapeshifting/rearranging element. Since one of the hallmarks of the Sentinels is they can supposedly adapt to any situation.

  • http://www.aeryllou.tumblr.com/ Aeryl

Past Wolverine and Current Wolverine. Just like we got two Xaviers and two Magnetos.

  • http://www.aeryllou.tumblr.com/ Aeryl

Really? I’ve been downvoted for a lot of things, but never confusion.

  • Carmen Sandiego

I’m not sure about these covers. My hopes for X-Men have plummeted somewhat. Also, I find it amusing that the two Quicksilvers we will have between this movie and Avengers: Age of Ultron co-starred in “Kick-Ass” together.

  • http://twitter.com/amydieg Beastbrarian

I’m going to buy that Rogue cover and hold it close and cry about how dude-centric this film will be.

  • Anonymous

What I read was that her only scene got cut but that they were trying to see if they could maybe insert her into another scene. I’m assuming the opportunity is long gone now.

  • Mark Wyman

cut from the movie, and stuck with the poster butt shot. Not a good time to be Rogue.

  • Patrick Denny

Am I the only one that thought “Oh cool! Wil Wheaton’s playing some guy named Bryan Singer!”

    Realy?

    Just me?…

    Ok.

  • Charlie

Some of the best female characters in comics, DUDES EVERYWHERE. *cries*

  • http://www.thenerdybird.com/ Jill Pantozzi

I also am interested to find out why Xavier is walking. I’m assuming it might be Cerebro stuff, so like, he’s only walking in his mind.

  • Anonymous

Rogue was cut from the first cut of the movie.
Singer said that he would do anything to get her back in the movie during reshoots… AND LOOK !
She has a cover of her own =3

  • Cowtools

Wow. Two dozen drab black pleather outfits. For such a figuratively colourful cast, this is literally as dull looking as can be.

  • Mehmed Celebi

“As most of us know, in the film adaption it will be Wolverine travelling back in time instead of Kitty, so why say she “travels through time” in an official tweet concerning the film?”
Okay, I know this is extremely unlikely, but I hope that the Producers are doing the same Thing as the Producers of Frozen. Meaning, just like their first promotional material focused on the male sidecharacter and whacky Comedy to Appeal to the lowest common denominator, this promotional material focuses on Wolverine to appeal to Wolverine fans. And then, like with Frozen where the Trailers had been misleadign and it was Elsa and Anna who were the true stars of the Show, in this case Kitty and Wolverine travel back in time TOGETHER, and the movie will then Focus more on Kitty.
I know, highly unlikely, but a guy can dream!

  • kbroxmysox

She has the cover because these covers were shot during shooting. If Rogue was back in, we’d know already.

  • Tiny Tina Booom

Oh, since they always confused Portuguese and Spanish and the comics, they finally decided to make him a Spanish speaker! *facepalm*

  • Melynda

Two Xaviers and Magnetos makes sense as there are two different actors for each role. Featuring Hugh Jackman in two different “costumes” and saying its Future/Past Wolverine is just lazy and continues to make too big of a deal about the character.

  • Anonymous
  • http://www.aeryllou.tumblr.com/ Aeryl

Oh I agree, but there is “logic” behind it.

  • Melynda

I’d love for the character of Kitty to take the central role altogether and forget Wolverine. But considering how unenjoyable I find Ellen Page’s acting, I hope it’s just Wolverine and they find some way of beefing up the roles of the ladies in this.

  • http://www.aeryllou.tumblr.com/ Aeryl

I understand why they can’t have Kitty doing the time travel. She doesn’t exist yet, so she has no younger self to travel back to. You won’t hear me complain about the story being “stolen” from Kitty.

But they need to counter that with an expanded presence for the women characters. Which ain’t happenin.

  • kbroxmysox

Well than fingers crossed that she’s in it, though if it’s just to get rescued and die in Bobby Drake’s arms, I’m not sure if I’ll be happy with that either. Here’s hoping the reshoots mean she’s in it and she’s kicking butt.

  • Guymelef

Ah, I was about to post asking who/what character that was. Thanks for clearing it up.

  • Guymelef

Considering Rogue’s presence throughout the original trilogy, I think it’s a real shame she’s being cut in favour of someone like Colossus (I single him out as he hardly did anything in the original trilogy). That said, I imagine he and many of the other newbies will hardly have much screen time either, and will mainly be onscreen for battles, something which movie-Rogue has never really been a part of.

  • TheFeminineMissGeek

Sir Not Appearing in this Film.

  • Mark Matson

Unless they later send her back using a different method to save Wolverine. (Or the other way around, where he saves her, but that would go with the material we’ve seen so far as well.)

  • http://www.aeryllou.tumblr.com/ Aeryl

Which is possible. Bishop time travels without having a younger self, right? Maybe they can’t do at the beginning, but learn to at the end.

  • http://anna.balasi.com/ AnnaB

Because they’re–like, the same, right? ::facepalms too::

  • Katy

Yeah I was wondering about that. Why not place them on the same cover? Like a comparison.

  • Anonymous

Calling it now – I do not see this going well. Too many characters, too little opportunity to develop most of them, too much going on. New characters thrown in and established ones ignored. The X-Men films have been best (i.e.: First Class) when they slow down a bit and focus on developing the characters.

At this point, I’d bet money that DOFP is going to crash and burn. It feels like a reprise of The Last Stand – lots of spectacle without substance. I plan to be staying home and watching X-Men: First Class for the umpteenth time.

  • Anonymous

Well. Culturally/ethnically/nationally (as opposed to linguistically) about as close to the same as Australian and Canadian.

  • http://technicalluddite.com/ Hannele Kormano

I might be wrong, but I think they all go together as one big poster?

  • Amourah

So Darth Maul isn’t Toad anymore? Sigh :-/

    1. Sentinel: I like how it’s lanky like the original comics Sentinel. The metallic purple looks great! It doesn’t, however, look like something that was made in the 70′s. It’s got sort of an iPhone vibe that’d fit Nimrod better. The exposed joints are obvious design flaws that should’ve been fixed before production. “Moderately powerful” sounds like a backhanded compliment. It sort of looks like there’s a crotch on its face.
    2. Havok: Army fatigues are boring. The energy effect looks ethereal but not threatening.
    3. Toad: Why is he neither green nor 30 years younger than he was in the first movie? Is he going to turn green at some point, which will be revealled as yet another mutant power that keeps you forever young? Did they honestly decide that they needed an arc to explain why movie Toad didn’t look like comic book Toad? Or did Singer just forget the distinctive character design from his own movie?
    4. Stryker: ” Is this before or after Xavier & Magneto failed to teach his son, Mastermind, not to torture his wife to suicide? “Nutjob” is excessive when you consider movie Stryker is slightly more justified than comic Styker.
    5. Trask: “Stay classy, Washington D.C.!”
    6. Mystique: I still don’t like her scale design.
    7. Beast: “Blue Wolfman” is the best look for him. I’d prefer it if he wasn’t wearing civies. I appreciate that they indicated his “superhuman furriness.”
    8. Quicksilver: I’m ambivalent on this costume. It’s not a good look, but it does look like something that he could’ve cobbled together himself. I can look at it & tell it who it’s supposed to be, which is more than I can say for many characters in the prior films. I like utility belts in general, though I agree the bulky bits would be a pain to run with. I’m just curious as to why he wants mini-Moog synthesizer with him at all times.
    9. Magneto: I was so happy to see Magneto wearing his classic helmet & a vibrant red shirt at the end of First Class. I’m really upset that swapped it for this drab get-up. It’s better than what he was wearing in the trilogy, but it’s nowhere near as awesome as the classic Magneto I was promised.
    10. Xavier: Why aren’t you bald already?
    11. Wolverine: He’s very vascular.
    12. Bryan Singer: Nobody wants a cover of you! Ok, nobody wants 3/4 of these covers either, but he still spoils the photoshopped character tableau with his 4th wall breaking. “Puppet master & franchise creator” come off obnoxiously.
    13. future Wolverine: This is one of the rare instances where I’d prefer a character to wear civillian clothes instead of a costume. There MUST be a scene where he wears his traditional bomber jacket in front of a wall of wanted posters with Kitty! This costume somehow manages to have less personality than his uniforms from the trilogy that only had yellow outlined tiger stripes to evoke the comic costume. I really wish they would’ve used the costume from the extended ending of The Wolverine instead. He has Adamantium claws even though that movie showed he shouldn’t anymore.
    14. future Xavier: I like Xavier in a hoverchair but it has to be a gold hoverchair. This thing looks way too delicate for a dystopian future warzone. Olive drab would’ve helped liven him up a bit. Is there really a tactical advantage to only wearing black when Sentinels have tracking options beyond the visible spectrum?
    15. future Magneto: His muted 70′s armor would actually work better in this dystopian future, contrasting his bright classic costume in the past. What a missed opportunity!
    16. Storm: I like her fauxhawk. Her costume, like most of the future costumes, looks too colourless & utilitarian. Her cape just looks like a tablecloth held onto her gloves with alligator clips. Why are some of her teammates more glamourous?
    17. Rogue: Ser Notappearinginthisfilm’s outfit is striking, only because it’s not black.
    18. Warpath: This looks like a good adaptation of his X-Force costume, which isn’t as gool as the red & blue variant. Is that a leaf or fossil on his chest? The cover lists his powers as super strength, invilnerability, AND flight! It sounds like he would’ve been the perfect Sentinel victim to sacrifice to Rogue.
    19. Kitty Pryde: Her sleeves remind me of Arkham City’s Talia al Ghul. I’d care more about her if she called herself Shadowcat & had Lockheed with her.
    20. Sunspot: Isn’t Sunspot supposed to look biracial? It looks like he has melanoma lesions, which contradicts his nigh-invulnerabilty on the cover. I hope his power effect isn’t just going to be orange light swirls. He looks more like The Ray.
    21. Blink: She looks really good but they could’ve gone further with her colours. The detail on her jacket puts Storm to shame. Her dagger looks like a dildo. Even if she can teleport, I don’t think she should fight Sentinels in giant wedge heels. The teleportal between her cover & Warpath’s is keen.
    22. Iceman; One of the best moments of X-Men 3 was when Bobby finally iced up. So why are they wasting my time with a cover of him not iced up & riding an ice slide?
    23. Bishop: He looks good, especially with that maroon cape breaking up all the drab. I wish his gun looked more like the cartoon gun with the toaster muzzle.
    24. Colossus: I didn’t expect Singer to use the armored skin design of X-Men 3. It’s still too much clothing for him, especially that one glove.
    25. future Sentinel: The floating tiles from those “First Look” pre-trailer previews have become sentient! This is a huge evolutionary step that I’d feel better about if we got to see a more classic yet intimidating intermediary form. They should look more substantial than a wiry Evangelion Angel. It’s not blocky & friendly colored enough to be Nimrod. It could pass for when Cerebro turned evil or Phalanx if they ran out of gold coating. Couldn’t they have at least kept the lovely metallic purple?

  • Anonymous

In the comics Sunspot is visibly biracial with tan brown skin. He has a Black industrialist father & ginger archaeologist mom, both of whom are Brazilian.

  • http://www.thenerdybird.com/ Jill Pantozzi

No, they’re doing a younger version so they cast someone else: http://www.themarysue.com/details-on-xmen-future-films/

  • Anonymous

Seems to be the only reason to make a movie now: how many A-listers you’re going to be able to stuff the cast with. And then put them on display. No matter how little we actually see some of them (like the female characters, in this one, I’m sure) in the actual movie.

  • Anonymous

But still, they make it to the cover, just to pretend…

  • Anonymous

Wolverine needs two covers because, despite the efforts to make us believe otherwise, this is going to be yet another Wolverine movie. Ugh

  • Anonymous

If by “younger” you mean “about the same age Ray Park was in X-Men even though DOFP Toad appears in the sequence that takes place thirtyish years prior,” then yes.

  • Charlie

Also, it looks like all the pictures are combined into one long one inside the magazine. So removing her could have messed up the picture. Though I hope it means she’ll be in the movie.

  • http://www.aeryllou.tumblr.com/ Aeryl

Because then you wouldn’t have a nice round number like 25.

  • Rogue

Am I the only one extremely excited to see a Native-American character? Finally?? Sadly not Dani Moonstar but I (Cherokee/Blackfoot) will take what I can get. Here’s hoping he’s Native in name only and ‘just another character’ instead of the whole ‘I magic indian’ bit most movies portray

  • Rogue

Where she is sadly posed in the cookie-cutter “hey look at mah butt, sugah!”

  • http://www.aeryllou.tumblr.com/ Aeryl

That is a banner, and it looks stupid, IMO. It would be better if they could organize them in a 5×5 poster, and they actually blended that way instead.

  • Anonymous

Somehow downbeat to see the Rogue cover knowing that Anna Paquin was cut from the final picture.

And they’re still trying to sell us Jennifer Lawrence as a replacement for Rebecca Romjin? Good luck – because I didn’t bought that in First class and I also won’t yet, unimportant how successful her “Hunger Games” movies are.

  • Anonymous

Rogue is also the only one where she just happens to be showing her butt off. Topless Wolverine at least might be in the movie. Rogue is just a butt shot to get you in the door.

  • BatiHoney

I cringe everytime I see the Singer cover… “Puppet Master” ugh…he may have his fanboys, but generally if I wanted to collect these covers why would I want him there breaking the 4th wall? God, why did they bring him baaack? -cries-

  • Amanda Pina

They got to have a butt-boobs pose in the female departament. Why you Rogue? Been cut wasn’t enough?

  • karina

No you’re not the only one bothered by Quicksilver’s costume…so bad I didn’t realize it was him until you pointed it out….okay maybe an exaggeration….and I completely agree on the girl characters. the heck.

  • karina

I totally agree with you on this one. This is the area of marvel that has the most strong female characters….and we are probably just going to get a few lines and some cleavage…this I do have a problem with….especially when toad and quicksilver look horrible…unless this somehow leads to a reboot I’m about done with Marvel’s X-men movies….I love Patrick Stewart, but the second and third movies just hurt and the first class movie contradicted the others as well as hurting.

  • karina

That’s okay I upvoted you because I thought your post was awesome and that you didn’t deserve a down vote ^^

  • http://www.aeryllou.tumblr.com/ Aeryl

    Aw thanks!

  • http://www.aeryllou.tumblr.com/ Aeryl

Well one of the trailer shots shows him upright and struggling with some other mutants, so I was thinking Mystique.
