New Star Wars: The Force Awakens Footage: Maybe-Jedi Finn Igniting a Lightsaber

This clip from the official Star Wars Instagram shows off some exciting new bits. Big thing: Finn igniting a blue lightsaber. He looks just as he does in the new Drew Struzan poster revealed earlier this month. He seems to be standing in a snowy forest, looking all aggressive and angry (not very Jedi-like… hm). The snowy forest looks just like the one Kylo Ren was standing in with his… uh, unique lightsaber.

Personally, I was hoping Rey would be a Jedi, but… well, you can’t have everything I guess.

Overanalysis shows that the bottom of the lightsaber matches Anakin Skywalker’s first lightsaber. You know, the one Luke so clumsily dropped in Cloud City. But the emitter looks to be just the slightest bit different. The beam coming out of Finn’s saber is much more steady and solid–not at all like Kylo Ren’s wavy, shaky one, suggesting that perhaps Finn has either had a little more training and is actually a Jedi Knight, or he’s holding on to a lightsaber trying to look menacing in the face of Sith-not-Sith Kylo Ren.

Also featured in this short teaser are our faves: BB-8 and Rey looking up at something, terrified. They look to be in a jungle setting, too. Whatever that might mean.

Anyway, overanalysis aside, consider the hype-rdrive (get it) engines restarted. We’ll make the Kessel Run record yet.

Hypothesize and overanalyze with us in the comments!
