First Trailer for Stonewall Shows More Diverse View of Historic Riots

But sadly, the trans erasure continues.

Check out the first trailer for Roland Emmerich’s film, Stonewall, which was released today!

While I still have reservations due to the trans erasure that’s happening, the trailer seems to at least do a better job of showcasing characters of color. In addition to the lead, Danny (played by Jeremy Irvine), there’s a lot of time focused on Ray Castro, a real-life Puerto Rican participant in the riots (played by Penny Dreadful‘s Jonny Beauchamp). And Marsha P. Johnson (played by Otoja Abit), one of the trans women of color at the Stonewall on the first night of the riots, seems to be represented prominently, albeit played by a cis male actor.

What do you think of the Stonewall trailer? Will you be going to see it?
