Finally! They’re pairing the superhero up with a real girl! Instead of one of those fakey model types they always seem so keen on casting. Personally, I am really sick of going to the movies and seeing models instead of actresses. You can be :”beautiful” and still be an actress, but that doesn’t mean that they should all be supermodel types!

this is Mary Jane? seriously? I don’t see it, especially in her face.

When I picture the character in my mind I don’t see this person playing her

the two images don’t match. I guess we’ll just have to see how she does in the movie

itself. but like I said I don’t think she looks like the character or at least not how I would picture them

I wasn’t really excited about this casting choice when I heard about it, and looking at these pictures I’m still not. I’ll try and be open-minded about it but I would have much rather seen someone else in the role. I would have loved to see Jane Levy play Mary Jane because she pulls off the red hair very well and I think could keep her own against another strong actress like Emma Stone.

It’s hard for me to comment here, because I haven’t seen The Descendants. I’ve only seen her in half an episode of Secret Life. Based on what I’ve seen, I’m not doubting this casting choice because of her looks, I’m doubting this choice because she doesn’t seem to have in her the “Mary Jane Confident Bad-Assery” that the Raimi version failed to achieve. The new Gwen is fantastic. Will the MJ measure up?

I would have reversed Gwen/MJ casting. Raimi got MJ wrong and Peter/ Spidey only marginally right.

I think the issue here is that, in the comics, MJ has been portrayed as a fashion model, an actress, and always as an absolutely stunning woman that turns heads everywhere she goes. This actress is an attractive woman, no doubt about it. She’s just doesn’t look the way so many of us see MJ in our heads.

Who gets to decide what “model good looks” even means? The great thing about modeling in 2013 is that as opposed to 20 years ago…alot of different looks are welcomed and acceptable. I think she’s a beautiful young woman and, more importantly, she’s a stellar actress.

The face of a Mary Jane that perhaps suits the mediocre reboot.

LIked this film about as much as Raimi’s first and thought they could splice them for the perfect film, but after 3 viewings, I just can’t find myself enjoying this one as much as the original :-/

The suit’s eyes look bigger and the colors brighter, but that’s about it :P
