My Spidey Sense Is Tingling

Our First Look At Mary Jane From The Set Of The Amazing Spider-Man Sequel

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is currently filming in New York and while that means we’re seeing shots of Andrew Garfield’s upgraded costume (which looks basically the same) floating around, it’s also yielded us our first look at Shailene Woodley’s Mary Jane! Two more shots of the new redhead after the jump!

We’re not sure if Woodley is in costume here or not but this is the set of the sequel. The 21-year-old actress joins returning cast members Garfield and Emma Stone for the film as well as Chronicle’s Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn.

She looks like she took fashion tips from Amy of Doctor Who.

The face of a Mary Jane that perhaps suits the mediocre reboot.

LIked this film about as much as Raimi’s first and thought they could splice them for the perfect film, but after 3 viewings, I just can’t find myself enjoying this one as much as the original :-/

The suit’s eyes look bigger and the colors brighter, but that’s about it :P

I bet they glam her up quite a bit.

mary jane is a model, the girl is cute but not model good looks. fail casting

To be honest, I think that’s just Shailene. No make up and unflattering clothing, I doubt she was filming any MJ that day.

Most models don’t have “model good looks” that’s what makeup and phtoshop are for.

Who gets to decide what “model good looks” even means? The great thing about modeling in 2013 is that as opposed to 20 years ago…alot of different looks are welcomed and acceptable. I think she’s a beautiful young woman and, more importantly, she’s a stellar actress.

She doesn’t seem to have make up on. Having said that, yeah she is no supermodel

I think the issue here is that, in the comics, MJ has been portrayed as a fashion model, an actress, and always as an absolutely stunning woman that turns heads everywhere she goes. This actress is an attractive woman, no doubt about it. She’s just doesn’t look the way so many of us see MJ in our heads.

maybe they are going away from the supermodel aspect. who knows ?

I would have reversed Gwen/MJ casting. Raimi got MJ wrong and Peter/ Spidey only marginally right.

i’m not saying she’s not pretty she is very pretty but she is not a super model like Mary Jane is.

It’s hard for me to comment here, because I haven’t seen The Descendants. I’ve only seen her in half an episode of Secret Life. Based on what I’ve seen, I’m not doubting this casting choice because of her looks, I’m doubting this choice because she doesn’t seem to have in her the “Mary Jane Confident Bad-Assery” that the Raimi version failed to achieve. The new Gwen is fantastic. Will the MJ measure up?

Yeah…Maguire’s Peter Parker mostly reminded me of Commander Data—when he was trying to mimic emotional behavior.

Down to earth girl-next-door look. I LOVE IT!!!

I wasn’t really excited about this casting choice when I heard about it, and looking at these pictures I’m still not. I’ll try and be open-minded about it but I would have much rather seen someone else in the role. I would have loved to see Jane Levy play Mary Jane because she pulls off the red hair very well and I think could keep her own against another strong actress like Emma Stone.

I think she’s really pretty! I mean, that’s what I was thinking even before I scrolled down to the comments and saw everyone bitching that “she doesn’t look like a supermodel like in the comics.”

well this is Mary ‘Second Banana to Gwen’ Jane… Lets see what the angle on the character is this time around

Dear gents, this is what women look like with no make-up on. And she’s still gorgeous.

  • fdr

this is Mary Jane? seriously? I don’t see it, especially in her face.

When I picture the character in my mind I don’t see this person playing her

the two images don’t match. I guess we’ll just have to see how she does in the movie

itself. but like I said I don’t think she looks like the character or at least not how I would picture them

Finally! They’re pairing the superhero up with a real girl! Instead of one of those fakey model types they always seem so keen on casting. Personally, I am really sick of going to the movies and seeing models instead of actresses. You can be :”beautiful” and still be an actress, but that doesn’t mean that they should all be supermodel types!

How hard is it to cast a pretty red head!?! Jane Levy would have been perfect but they screwed up the casting and it’s too late to fix that now.

  • http://www.facebook.com/romancruz Roman Cruz

TBH, I was expecting more from the girl who’s supposed to say, “Face it, Tiger. You just hit the jackpot!”

  • http://www.facebook.com/romancruz Roman Cruz

And you know what? Karen would’ve probably been a more appropriate MJ, other than the obviously fake “American” accent she sports when she’s not layering her words with her thick Scottish brogue.

Another miscast Mary Jane. Not as bad as the last one, but still…

Perhaps one day we will get decent Spider=Man and X-Men movies.
