The Falcon Finally Gets an Honest-To-God Character Poster

Not one for international markets that may or may not be fan-made. Not one from Japan where he’s in the background. An actual, legit, I-am-the-center-of-attention character poster for one of the MCU’s very few characters of color.

Some new promo pics of the Falcon, Black Widow, Winter Soldier, Maria Hill, and (naturally) Cap are also out. Check those out behind the jump.

His pants looked jacked up but those goggles are rad as hell.

Is the pic of Bucky in the photo gallery the first we’re seeing of him sans mask? And also apparently sans eye makeup?

  • Anonymous

I want one of those winged jetpacks.

  • JustPlainSomething

I also love the idea of Falcon and Steve just having a working out and looking fine scene. Yes Steve in a skintight shirt yes.

  • AverageDrafter

Goggles by Oakley, Pouches by Leifeld.

I have to say – not really feeling the wings. I know that’s the comic depiction, but they’re just looking kinda goofy here. :(

  • Laura Truxillo

Is it sad to say I think the fanmade one looked way more dynamic? Just having his feet off the ground would go a long way to looking cooler.

Still, glad they finally made one.

  • Aeryl

AW NO MORE RACCOON EYES! How else are we supposed to know Bucky has a sad.

  • JustPlainSomething

The perpetual frown is a bit of a giveaway.

  • Anonymous

Well it’s about time. I think the fanmade one looked a bit better, but hey, beggars can’t be choosers. We got our Falcon poster, and that makes me happy. Those wings are gonna look GREAT in flight.

  • Aeryl

Yeah, I’m trying to figure out what all those straps are for. At first I thought they went with the wings, but in the other shot, he’s got the wingpack on in jeans with no nifty straps.

  • Anonymous

Well that didn’t take long — oh wait, yes, it did. Finally.

  • Bittersweet Fountain

Oh me, oh my, Bucky is looking good. *fans self*

  • Anonymous

They’re usually red & more feathery in the comics.

  • Anonymous

Knowing that the comics are even goofier doesn’t help, though. :)

  • MeatyStakes

    yay cobie!

I really like Falcon’s design, but I wish he had at least a little more of his classic color scheme in there. Even just a red arm band or something. I just feel like his army grey is a little to much of a contrast to Steve’s colorful costume. Though it is growing on me. I’m just really excited Falcon’s in the movie and hope he gets sufficient screen time. By the way, I think the fan made poster was a teeny bit better…

  • Temmere

Yeah, I figured white would be out, but I was hoping for a little red. There might be some reddish highlights on the wings where the “feathers” overlap, but it’s definitely not a focal point.

  • Alice Ruppert

I only really noticed how fucked up the photoshop in this picture is, when a redditor fixed it…. Falcon’s butt is like one foot higher up than his crotch.

  • Adrian

If you saw Thor: The Dark World in 3-D, their extended trailer showed Sebastian as the Winter Soldier pretty clearly.

  • JustPlainSomething

Ah, I saw Thor 2 with just my regular eyeballs. Kind of surprised someone didn’t find a way to get a screenshot of that online.

I’m hoping that since Sam seems to be coming from a military background, and only starting to become a costumed hero, that they’ll make his costume more colorful in the sequels. As it is though, this costume is a dead on match for his Ultimate costume:

  • Rebecca Pahle

HOLY. I guess they were trying to go for a perspective thing, like you’re laying on the floor looking up at him? But if so, they did an awful job. Or a great one, because, like you, I didn’t notice the PS frakkery until it was pointed out.

  • Alice Ruppert

Yeah, and now there’s no way I can unsee it.

  • totz the plaid

The pose was a bit more dynamic, yeah, but the costume looked very dull and monochrome in that one. It’s nice to see that there is, in fact, some red in the wings, and that it’s not all black. I hope that the fan-made poster was correct in that his flight goggles have red lenses, though.

I still wish that the support straps for his wing harness were a deep crimson or something, to make it pop a bit more, but I’m feeling much better about his costume now.

  • Laura Truxillo

I guess. I just think that the poster of a relatively unknown character should do everything possible to show a new audience “this dude is cool, here’s why you should like him.” Costume is one thing (I don’t see much here, just a guy in fatigues with some wings on), but man, he’s not even flying. It makes him look a bit silly, in comparison. And action should would’ve been better.

  • JustPlainSomething

Also Io9 found out some stuff about the working out scene and oh my god, it’s adorable. (obviously some spoiilers for that scene, so heads up if you’re avoiding it)

  • Jeff

Huh, well that’s nice that the costume is at least based on something. I wasn’t familiar with his Ultimate costume so I just assumed this was Marvel adhering to the ‘superheroes can’t wear tights’ philosophy or whatever. I like that Marvel Studios is managing to combine the modern flair of the Ultimate universe with the more classic nature of the 616 comics. I’d say there’s a pretty even balance in terms of where they’re getting their influences from.
