The Doctor’s a Bit Grumpy in this Christmas Special Prequel [VIDEO]

The BBC has just released The Great Detective, a prequel minisode to next month’s Doctor Who Christmas special. The short is introduced by Matt Smith and new companion Jenna-Louise Coleman and stars the Doctor, Madame Vastra, Jenny, and Strax. Will the Doctor regain his Christmas spirit in time to save the day? You’ll have to wait until the Christmas special itself airs to find out, but this prequel is a nice little thing to whet your appetite.

A bitter “retired” Doctor who proves initially unwilling to engage in events? I can’t imagine its a coincidence that this is also the episode featuring REG.

It’s feeling VERY recycled and I’m still not feeling the Doctor’s total surrender. With Rose, she was first trapped in an alternate universe and then decided to spend her life with a human, Martha quit for a better gig, Donna’s head was all in danger of being melty, but Amy and Rory are…trapped behind a plot hole.

I was referring the Scream of the Shalka web episode in 2003, which featured Grant’s now tragically non-canonical Doctor also claiming to have retired. I’m sort of hoping that there’s something of a nod to this episode intended.
