Well, this is just delightful. Take this completely unsubstantiated story with a grain of salt, but rumor has it that the producers of the sixth movie in the Fast and Furious franchise, Fast Six — meaning that the seventh movie will be called F7, the eighth will just be 8 or F, and the ninth will turn to the Greek alphabet or be without a title entirely — have their sights set on the 10th Doctor himself, David Tennant, for a role in the Axe-scented car flick. But don’t get too excited — or furious! BWAAHAHAHAHA — because apparently, any talks or negotiations that have taken place are far from official. That will not stop us from finding it amazing, though.
The announcement that this might, maybe, possibly, potentially mean real negotiations could might, maybe, possibly, potentially start comes on the heels of several big-name cast announcements, including the return of Michelle Rodriguez, the addition of Haywire‘s breakout star Gina Carano, and the possible but unlikely addition of Rihanna (currently starring in Battleship). Luke Evans (Clash of the Titans, Immortals) may also join in as the villain. But don’t get your hopes up, because any discussions about Tennant’s casting fall far below what can be called “official.” Screen Rant describes the talks between the actor and director Justin Lin as “casually chatting” and in fact, they’ve just been taking place on Skype, and it seems like it’s more along the lines of “Okay, if I do this, what’s in it for me, just in case it happens?”
The story — which I won’t call “news” just yet — comes from El Mayimbe at Latino Review, whom Screen Rant considers to be reliable. So we’ll give him the benefit of the doubt. Is it possible that these chats took place? Of course! But is it likely that any of this will lead to anything? Probably not. It doesn’t make it any less super-fun.
Another reason to get a tighter grip on our horses: there are basically no details on what kind of role Tennant would be playing, whose side he’d be on (Dwayne Johnson‘s or Vin Diesel‘s), or if he’d even be a villain or not. See? No details. It’s barely worth speculating on, we just really like the idea of David Tennant in a Fast and Furious movie. If this doesn’t happen, expect fan fiction. Tennant will be playing either Casanova or the Doctor, and there will be an eyebrow battle between him and the Rock.
