A Past Community Cast Member Will Be Back in the Season 6 Finale!
#SixSeasonsandaMovie part 1 complete.
Community is on the edge of finally completing its destined six seasons and possibly fading away entirely without making good on “and a movie,” but there’s still a surprise left for fans in the season six finale next week!
The show’s sixth season hasn’t been my favorite by a long shot—despite some truly great moments it’s had—and most fans seem to feel the same way. It was hurt before it even began by the loss of major characters in season five with Donald Glover and Chevy Chase leaving the show, and it suffered another blow with Yvette Nicole Brown’s departure before season six started. Fear not! One of those actors will apparently return for the season finale. (Spoilers after the gif.)
And that actor is Yvette Nicole Brown!
In the finale synopsis posted on Reddit, Brown is listed as one of the episode’s guest stars, along with a fittingly meta plot description after how most of the season has gone so far:
Episode 13 (Season Finale): Emotional Consequences of Broadcast Television
Guest Stars: Paget Brewster, Keith David, Yvette Nicole Brown, Seth Green
As their sixth year at Greendale draws to a close, Abed (Danny Pudi) asks everyone to imagine pitching a TV show about what they would do in season seven. Joel McHale, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Jim Rash and Ken Jeong also star.
Directed by: Rob Schrab
Written by: Dan Harmon and Chris McKenna
While Shirley didn’t get a whole lot to do in season five, her absence in season six left a big personality hole that the show scrambled to fill with only moderate success. When she originally left the show, Brown’s comments left room open for guest appearances, and she already made one in the season opener, so closing it out with her on board definitely makes sense.
Some people will undoubtedly be disappointed that this returning guest star isn’t Donald Glover.
But the new season’s lack of Shirley and the empty feeling caused by it has given me a much greater appreciation for her character, and I can’t wait to see her join the rest of the study group again.
